Do NOT hold aspirin in your mouth! This can burn the tissue and cause more pain than you are already in. If it is an intense, throbbing type pain, you need to get to a dentist. If money is an issue, you may want to look into dental schools in your area. The school I went to had an emergency clinic just for things like this. It may take longer, but the cost is usually much less. Warm salt water rinses may help, depending on the cause, but don't be over-agressive in brushing or flossing the area because that can irritate things and make it worse. I hope you feel better soon!

DO NOT, whatever you do, HOLD AN ASPIRIN ON YOUR TISSUE. OUCH! I agree with c8lin... this will cause an aspirin burn, and your toothache will probably be secondary to that pain.
Clove oil can help... it is a natural obtundant (meaning it has pain relieving qualities). If you don't have clove oil, try a whole clove. Also, take what you would take for a headache (alleve, ib, etc.)
Most importantly, call a dentist and make an appointment. If your tooth is hurting, it is hurting for a reason. The above suggestions won't make it go away... it'll just reduce the pain until you can find out what is causing it and fix the problem.
Good luck.

Emergency self-care
Toothaches should always be professionally treated by a dentist. Some methods of self-treatment, however, may help manage the pain until professional care is available:
• Rinsing with warm salt water.
• Using dental floss to remove any food particles.
• Taking aspirin or acetaminophen (Tylenol) to relieve pain. The drug should be swallowed—never placed directly on the aching tooth or gum.
• Applying a cold compress against the outside of the cheek. Do not use heat, because it will tend to spread infection.
• Using clove oil (Syzygium aromaticum) to numb the gums. The oil may be rubbed directly on the sore area or used to soak a small piece of cotton and applied to the sore tooth.
• A washcloth soaked in chamomile tea and placed on the infected tooth or swished around in the mouth will help to ease the pain.

if its throbbing and keeping you awake @ night then you NEED to go to the dentist for some antibiotics and pain medication. then return to have it treated or extracted. Now if $$$$ is the issue @ this time then make sure you sleep with two pillows under your head to keep it elevatedso that the blood is not rushing to your head creating more pressure. and find a way to get antibiotics. Sometimes if I have antibiotics from a previous Dr's visit I check w/ thepharmacy if they are still good and take them 1 every 6 hrs. Now remember the antibiotic is really the one thats going to take the pain away cause its the one reducing the infection. Feel better

a combo of things. careful what you eat and drink. warm salt water gargle. warm instead of cold drinks, but not hot. brush your teeth well after you gargle with the salt water but brush with warm water. and lastly put orajel on it or ambesol. this should start to dull the pain enough to sleep. seek out antibiotics from a dentist or doctor.
