The less I fight today, the happier I am. I have a philosophy of the MYOB because when I don't, I'm likely to get myself into more trouble than snitching on a perp. Ya know though... when it comes to something serious like someone getting hurt, etc. I think it's use your best judgement. Good question!!!

If someone snitches for the greater good (turning in someone breaking any law), then report them!.
If snitching about minor things "tattling" ,childish pranks,...etc, then it just becomes annoying!
There comes a time when everyone must face a moral dilemma....."do I tell so-and-so that their spouse/bf/gf is cheating"? if we snitch, then there are consequences that we have to face, if we myob and keep the secret, we are lying by omission, and could get found out anyway......a double edged sword!
There are certain times when you should mind your own business. If you overhear or see something that doesn't concern you and as long as no laws are being broken and you are just being nosy.....myob.
There are several situations that could arise, but it is up to each individual to think about what they would want others to do if faced with the same situation.

Law enforcement will say no because it makes their job easier.
INTERROGATION TECHNIQUES AND PROCEDURES
Typically, detectives begin by making eye contact and engaging in idle conversation or chit-chat with the suspect in a sparsely-furnished room. The Miranda warnings are given if they haven't been given already. Next, the detective states that it is their job to discover the truth and they usually share some piece of evidence in the case at this point. Negative incentives are usually used first -- in an attempt to get the subject to confess because they would certainly lose any battle in court. The future is made to look bleak for the suspect. Positive incentives are then usually turned to -- in an attempt to get the suspect to feel better if they confess. The whole process is a kind of mind twist in which the suspect becomes convinced that everything they thought wasn't so bad and offered them some good hope becomes the most evil and bad thing in the world, and that everything they thought was bad or looked down on - like snitching to the police - becomes the most good and beautiful thing on Earth.
Since you are not a suspect to the crime, why involve yourself?....unless you have an "axe to grind."

If the perp is planning on hurting someone, then it should be reported. But if he is doing something wrong that has nothing to do with anyone, other then himself, then MYOB!

Do two wrongs make it right? Todays society myob is exactly why we are in the situations we are in. Everyone is afraid of the after effects to them selves. No one wants to get involved. Everyone is under peer pressure because society has taught up that it's ok to be in a gang, or use drugs, or hurt other people so that we can have a sense of "belonging" with others. For every action, there is a reaction. Be it good or bad. It's up to you to make it GOOD!

Apparently you are already a snitch. If you ask advice about this from other people and still say "the perp should be reported" than why even ask when you know what you are going to do?

If someone is breaking the law or hurting others with their deeds or actions then yes they should be reported. MYOB comes into play when instead of trying to correct wrong doing, you become a tattle tail and rat out everybody about everything.

When you are a kid it is okay. It keeps you out of trouble. I told on people ever chance I got when I was a kid. I didn't get yelled at or spanked because of it.
Now as a adult you have to obligation to tell asap if someone is doing something wrong and you witness it. I mean wrong not your co-worker stole a stapler. Other than that "MYOB". Believe that Carma will come back around and get those who do wrong back.

I believe snitching is a good thing. My brother was shot in front of the house over something gang-related. Had it never been for a snitch, the man would have never been caught. I'm pretty tried of this code on the street vowing to never snitch. When people look back on things and a member of their families are shot, they expect someone to come forward, not realizing that they wouldn't do the same if it one of their friends had shot someone over a gang-related issue.
