Why so much?

It costs money to test, and develop new military technology.

Also included are. Paying the soldiers, paying the researchers and developers, paying contractors, buying/ producing bullets, bombs, protective gear, medical supplies, tents, tanks, ect. The upkeep, and upgrades of vehicles and soldier gear.

Education benefits, Medical care, Training, Paying for the use of land for training. and so on and so on.

It's less than the funding for education. At least with the military, we are talking a lot of hard assets like tanks, aircraft carriers, planes, etc. Why so much for the military...considering how little we get for the investment?

Because they buy dumb unneeded weapons. The soldier is our main weapon, not 80 billion dollar subs who are moth balled!

I am not saying we don't need technology and other weapons. We are just getting away from the person who mad a victory happen in every war.

Of course dropping 2 A-bombs killing hundreds of thousands of non military civilians did quicken the end of the war with japan. That would have happened anyway!.

The USA spends about 500 + Billion $ On its Military .. The World
( take out USA ) Spends 450- Billion $ on Military

I can imagine just feeding all our soliders 3 meals a day would cost a fortune. Thats not counting the benefits, travel, weapons, fuel, etc etc etc.
