I'm really confused. Hear my dilemma: I went away recently to the island of Tobago in the Caribbean with my mom and I had a really great time. But sometimes, I just felt so alone. I can only describe it as this internal sadness that doesn't make me cry, but longs to be at home in a familiar environment.....yet I didn't want to leave the fun that I was having.

I've lived in a town for 14 years that I don't feel at home in , and can't wait to leave. I feel the most homesick for a city I lived in long ago ... Chicago.

It's possible to feel homesick even when you're at HOME, like being out of place.

I have had similiar experiences:
1) When I went off to college for the first time
2) When on a wonderful trip to Chile with my boyfriend.

I'm not sure what the explanation is, but here are some ways I found online to relieve or decrease the feeling:
"Psychologists say that the best way to alleviate homesickness is to bring along "transitional objects" such as photographs or tape-recorded messages from family members. Those mementos can alleviate the uncomfortable feelings when people are away from home" (wikpedia).
