i suppose i do worry when they place logs in front of me when i have the chain saw going and i don't hear them. there's been a few close shaves. its what their mother would have wanted. she died during a logging accident a few days after giving birth to the youngest. a few days rest then i had her back out there.

Only 8 hrs you say . When i was a lad they had me logging for 40 hrs a day, when i got home i was then beaten to a pulp if i said anything at all, i had to eat the scraps out of the bin and i was one of the lucky ones. These kids these days dont know there born!

Fella,

I am completely amazed at how many people don't "get it".

Instead of laboring in the forest, encourage their entreprenurial spirit and have them gather ginseng or mushrooms for the farmers market this summer and let them put the profits towards their college educations.... you can suck up the cost of the diapers now and they can be responsible for their higher education.... so they are not stuck doing "forest work" all their lives and it gets you off the hook for the bigger expenses later!

Well, one of the international rights that kids have its not to work. So i believe you are being very hard with them. Its OK if you like them to get involved in family's work, but 8 hours its just too much! Let them play! After all they are just little kids, they will have to work a lot when they grow up.

That's dumb, there's a law against making kids work that much. If they don't get to BE kids, then they'll be all messed up when they're adults.

You mean you waited until preschool to make them work? Bad habits start early!
