I can't get him to do anything normal like watch TV or play video games like a normal 7 yr old. Won't this hurt him socially? What can I do?

Heavens! We must act now! Before you know it, he'll ask you to take him to the library. *GASP* And after that......the signs get worse. His grades start to go up and his self esteem starts to grow. We just can't have this. So please please....buy him a PS2...an xbox....let him chat.......even buy him a cell phone. Just do NOT let him ask to go to college!!!!

Reading will benefit him far more than video games and television will. I would let him read as much as he wants to. However, if you are concerned about his social development, have him invite friends over to the house and find things for them to do either at the house or in a local park. If you are a good cook, make some snacks for them for when his friends are over. The kids will love the snacks and will want to come back again and again to sample your fine cooking. Popcorn, cookies and milk, fruit are always treats for kids your son's age.

God luck!!

If this is indicative of an extremely high IQ or an affinity for reading it probably would be a disservice to your child to try and curb it. Have your child tested and find out if this is the case, or is your child using reading as a refuge from something.

Get him World of Warcraft. It will steal his soul.
Reading is for noobs! Tell him it will make him look 'nerdy' and smart, and we all know what girls think about guys who are geeks, right? Show him movies like, Breakfast Club, and point out the DORK who makes good grades and reads all the time, and how UNCOOL he is socially. This should bring him around!

As long as he has friends what is the difference of what he likes to do. Encourage him to do the things he loves and he will turn out fine.
