Yes they do bleed, it is called a heat and it usually happens around 6 months to a year, it last around three weeks. That is why it is best to spay them at 6 mths because if they have not gone thru a heat the chance of them getting mammary tumors goes down markedly.Plus when spayed they cannot get pyrometria(life-threatening infection of the uterus)or ovarian cancer. This is the first and foremost reason vets recommend spaying your dog.Next is pet overpopulation of course and thirdly behavioral problems as even female dogs can become extremely aggressive when not spayed.

Okay, dogs don't have periods. When go into heat, some do start bleeding, others just spot. Some you can only tell by the fact their privates are swollen.
Their heat lasts for about 1 month. During this time they should be kept from male dogs. A female dog could go into heat as early as 6 months (about 10 in human years), however they should not have puppies until they are at least 18 months old. (about 16 in human years) However they go into heat about every 6 months.
At 6 months they are too young and not fully developed. Most dogs are not even fully matured until 2 years old. (18 or 21)
And while some people say a dog matures 7 years for every year, it isn't quite right. For one thing, the first 2 years of a dog are actually more like 21 years. And while my English Cocker spaniel could easily live to be 15, another breed will only live to be about 8.
And since I work at a shelter and see many animals who don't find homes, please consider spaying. A dog can be 6 months old when they get fixed.
And if your dog goes into heat and she is messy, get her doggie diapers available at PetSmart and PetCo. (and she will probably hate it, but at least she won't be leaving marks everywhere.)

Good question.
There are many factors that can vary when a female puppy will come into "heat" (name used to desribe period for dogs). I do not even think there is a normal age however, female usually experience their 1st. heat between the ages of 7to 10 months of age.
There are always exceptions as some may experience their first heat at 6 months old and others could wait until they are a year old.
The best thing to do is to ask you vet what you dogs temperature is on a daily basis. you can take her temperature and if there is an increase of a few degree's, that should give you an indication
that physiological changes are taking place.

Female dogs go into season (or have their period) between the ages of 6-11 months. It does depend on the dog. My girl went in season when she was about...8 months old. It will last for 3 weeks, and happens about every 6 months or so. I am a collie breeder so I have to know about this! Esp. since you can only breed a female dog when they are in heat. Most people spay thier female so they won't go in heat. By the way, female dogs are called "Bitches", so when people say "I have this nice '*****', etc." they are NOT swearing!

Dogs don't get periods. They do go into heat. Female dogs start going into heat after about seven months old (human months) and have it twice a year after that.

Dogs can come in heat(bleeding) as early as 4 months. I know because I had a Chihuahua that did. Some may not come in heat until a year or older. One of mine was 20 months old. So it all depends on the dog.

I don't know why people say dogs don't have periods cause they do!! They start when they are around a year old or when they get in heat. If they don't have periods then there might be a problem.
