not all cats do...

i had this really stupid cat that use to run up a tree and follow the branch but would end up underneath the branch... and then she would just let go.

she never landed on her feet... usually landed on her back or side...
it was really quite entertaining to watch... but a bit dangerous for her...

They know exactly where they are going to land so they turn their feet the right direction using their good balance.

Well about twenty years ago cats were almost extinct because they kept falling out of trees and landing on their backs, inevitably causing their deaths. So thanks to evolution and selective breeding, cats eventually started landing on their feet.
