No such thing as a British Accent !

Accents vary across the whole of Britain, ranging from Cockney (East and South East London), to Brummy, to Scouse (Liverpool) and Gordie (Newcastle/Sunderland), even those all the way down in Cornwall have the 'ole Farmer Giles' type accent :).

Right up in the cold north you have the Scots, and right over to the West of the British Isles you have the Welsh, who not only have a unique accent, but their own language too.

I do. I live in Yoshire, moved here from Kent. People at work say I have a real British accent. The odd thing they dont understand is that they do as well, just a dfferent one. They have trouble understanding that Yorkshire is not a country in its own right.

English is not my native language, but when I started learning it, I decided I'd have a Standard British English accent and spelling.

There's at least one Welshman in the house too! That's South Welsh, not North....wouldn't normally add that classification, except some sad git lifeguard is on Big Brother this year, and he's North Welsh. South Welsh is harsher and more rumbly. Nice to see all the Brits give a shout out for their region.

Oops - sorry Regsun - didn't see you there. Two Welsh then!

Where is your accent from as there are so many accents across Britain?

I'm a Londoner, and my grandparents used to speak proper cockney (rhyming slang and all!)
