If I may add my two cents...
...yes, it is a great idea to find a reputable chiropractor - they work wonders. However, if your back is also hurting, you should go to a neurologist and get a CT Scan. Why? Because X-Rays will not show the chiropractor whether or not you have a herniated or fragmented disk, in which case he should not touch your back.
How do I know all this? When I was 21, I slipped on a step and rolled down a flight of stairs at the University (yes, like in the movies). A year later, I woke up one morning to find myself in horrible pain, unable to sit down, stand up, and get out of bed in the morning.
Turned out that one of my lumbar disks was fragmented during my fall. It did not break then BUT, since I went to a chiropractor who of course only used an X-Ray machine, and then continued my normal, very physically active life after he realigned my back and hip, this put pressure on my disk until it broke, pinched my nerves, and left me technically paralyzed from the pain.
I had to have surgery and learn to walk again. I spent 10 weeks immobilized in bed. Not fun.
Anyway, back to your neck. Make sure that is all that is hurt, is all I'm saying. I wouldn't wish the pain I went through on my worst enemy.
Other than that, chiropractors are great, especially if you go to a massage therapist right after!
Hope you feel better soon.

I know what you feel like..
One time I had a really bad kink in my neck and I couldn't even turn my head without hearding! Luckily, my sister is physical therapist and she took care of the pain with this machine that sends heat into the body to make you feel better..
One thing you might want to try is rolling your head (if it doesn't hurt too bad) until it doesn't hurt as much. *always works for me*
Other wise you should probably just go to your local \chiropractician or physical therapist and they will take care of you

I would suggest going to a local chiropractor or a massage therapist. You may have one or more bones out of place in your neck or back. Find a good reputable chiropractor that has been practicing for at least 5 years. Your insurance may even cover most of the bill. Make sure he takes x-rays and examines them BEFORE he makes any adjustments to your neck or back.

I'd say you are a prime candidate for chiropractic care. Chiropractic corrects vertebral subluxations, which is another way of saying that the spinal bones are misaligned. When the vertebrae are out of place, they can potentially pinch the nerves running out between them. A pinched nerve can result in pain, numbness/tingling, or any type of general malfunction in that nerve's corresponding body part. Please don't rely on "cracking" your own back, because that can be dangerous! Chiropractors are highly trained to locate and correct subluxations. And pain medication only masks the symptom of pain and is NOT correcting the problem (in addition to having unwanted side effects). For immediate relief, try putting ice on your neck for 20 minutes.
No matter what you decide to do, good luck to you!

I feel for you, have the same problem and the pain never stops. I used to go to a physiotherapist and it helped for the time being. But it gets pricey after a while. Try this first, if it doesn't cure permanently, have your back examined by a chiropractor. Make sure he takes ex-rays before he treats you. If he suggests an operation, get a second opinion first. But go to the physiotherapist first. She showed me exercises to do when the pain intensified which helps a lot for everyday "use"!

Sit in a firm chair. like the song says the backbone is connected to the neck bone. And if you sit in a chair that doesn't give you good back support, you increase your chance of worsening existing neck problems and causing new ones,

I went to 7 chiropractors with very little help for my neck. Then I found one that uses a very scientific method of taking x-rays and making adjustments. For how it works and one near you see site below-- Nat. Upper Cervical [means neck] Chiropractic Association (NUCCA).

Go to the chiropractor. He can re-align your spine and neck. Meanwhile, take a warm bath and wrap a damp hot towell around your neck and relax.
