I guess you're asking about Champagne or Chardonnay for a girl's name? (Sorry, I find it a bit hard to read your question without punctuation).

Well, I'm sorry to say, I think your Mum's absolutely correct.

Just think: you give that name to a baby girl, and she's going to have to put up with it all her life. Not only that, (assuming you're considering it for your own child) you will have to shout that every time you call your child in for tea (or whatever) for time in memorium.

One further thing to consider: a similar name in popularity about 16 years ago was Kylie. If you had a daughter that was now 16, would you feel comfortable with having called her that?

In short, I think you'll find that the majority of people will think that Chardonnay (or Champagne) sounds completely and uuterly chav. I'm sorry, but you're propably better buying one of those paperbacks full of kids names and going through that. Or you could try getting a book of astronomy and looking at the names of the planet's moons. Most of them are named after goddesses and the like.

But please, Chardonnay... don't do it.

why would you want to name your daughter a name YOU can't even apparently spell easily (chardonnay for the record). I'm not trying to make fun of you. But if you have that much trouble spelling easily enough, what about teachers and friends and such. Plus, consider all the ribbing she'll get in school later on. Go with your mum's advice on this one. You'll be glad you did.

My sister-in-law is naming her daughter Journey and we are really wanting to disown her for it - but we can't sadly enough.

Rhiannon is a beautiful name, so is Elizabeth and Hannah and Rebekkah.

Sorry, it is a bit 'footballers wives', how about char..... lotte. A more classic vintage! I've heard of a girl called 'Tequila' and I think it is strange to name your child after a drink, however 'exotic' it sounds. But I chose an 'unusual' name for my child which was suddenly the name of the year and I regret it. Buy a book, short list a few names and then see which one suits her when she is born.

Chardonney is great; especially sparkling. It's the grape that Champagne is made from. I would't buy Champagne; there's little, if any, diff in taste and it's so much more expensive.

Chardonnay is a nice name. Very unusual, and I'm sure no one else in her class (or school) will have it.
