because that's the only time it is cool to do so...
any other time ...as you know...we would be on the ground....
so why not show off and have some fun..doing it..
it makes a noise when you hit the cup and it shows how tough they are..it fun..
other than that..no reason, but because we can ....)wink)

I think it's because of the sense of protection that the "cup" gives us. In everyday walking around, our boys are out there, dangling, with nothing to protect them but a thin layer of fabric...we would never dream of swinging anything heavier than a feather in their vicinity because we know the excrutiating pain involved in even the slightest impact to that region.
However, when we slip that hard plastic sheild into our underwear, we suddenly feel invincible! It's like we've become Superman! If you ask us whether we are wearing our cup, we haul off and strike ourselves in the groin as if to say, "Why yes! I am now bulletproof...as you can plainly see!"

It is the macho thing to do. It separates the young men from the little boys. It usually freaks out mothers and sisters, while bringing approval from peers.
This is preferable to the response you get if you ask a man. He will usually scratch his butt first and then pull down his pants to look.

Boys will be boys. Anytime that they get the chance to touch themselves in any way, shape or form, they jump at it. Also, knowing that their favourite toy is now invincible makes it much more fun.

When I wear my cup, I just fill it with vodka and orange juice. It has a lid and a straw so it comes in handy. :)
