I was arrested for domestic violence a few months ago. This is my second offence within 7 years. I didn't beat up my girlfriend she attack me and trying to calm her down again, but of course I was the one who got put in jail. Well, I made bail and now my case is pending with the District Attorney’s. I haven't seen a judge yet and it could be awhile before I do since they are so backed up. I am hooked on pain pills and I know this could contribute to our fights, so I was wondering should I get my self into rehab before I see a judge so that maybe he will be a little more lenient on me when it comes to my charges? If I do go to jail how long will I be in for? Also, could I check myself into rehab knowing that my charges are still pending? I can’t afford an attorney right now.

You should go into rehab anyway, you obviously know you have a problem. It should be done because of the problem not because you may get a lighter sentence. Talk to someone about your pain pills you may need something else.

yes, you can check yourself into rehab with pending charges. And you should. You should get yourself off of the pills if you believe it to be a problem. And yes, the judge will most likely be more lenient on you. I went through the same thing when I was 20, except it was for a dlivery of LSD charge (lesson learned, just young and dumb). Attorney is a really good idea, if you can ever afford one. If not, a court appointed one is better than nothing, but you never know what you are getting or if he gives a sh**. I would have someone keep an eye on the mailbox and contact the court if you get an appearance date. You really dont have contact with anyone when you are in residential rehab. They want yo to focus on yourself, not outside worries. Even if you are expected in court and dont go because you were in rehab, the judge will respect that you went and are trying to change your life. Good Luck my man!!!!

First of all, get rid of the girlfriend. Obviously, the two of you are bad together. Second, get some help to get off the pain pills. Start by seeing your doctor and admitting you have a problem. Ask for help. Try out patient counseling or group therapy, those are usually cheap options. You must WANT to deal with the problem, though, or nothing you do will help. Dependency starts in your own mind. If rehab is your only choice and you really want to change, go for it. Just let someone know to show up in court for you when the time comes so that they can tell the judge that you are getting help.

First, get a court appointed lawyer. Yes, you should go to rehab, you need to free yourself from the pain pills. The judge will take into consideration the fact that you took the first step in getting help for your addiction. It would hurt to get into some type of anger management class or domestic violence class although you feel that you are not at fault.

Definately go to rehab. If you do get it done before your hearing for your charges the judge might take it into consideration. Also, I dont know your full situation with your GF, but if you went to jail then someone pressed charges, am I right? If it was your GF maybe you might consider finding someone else that wont put you in the situations that get you into trouble?

If you have an addiction, you need to go to rehab as soon as possible. You could be behaving badly and not even realize it. Get help.
