Hey,
as Roxi said, it was originally supposed to land in New York on April 16th, but The Chairman of the White Star Line, J. Bruce Ismay, is alleged to have ordered the ship to go faster so they could enter New York Harbour on Tuesday night, beating Titanic's sister ship, Olympic's, time to travel from one side of the Atlantic to the other, and to have the Titanic in the papers the same day... more publicity. It is unclear, however, if Ismay did this with or without the Captain's knowledge. the Captain is the commander of the sihp. No one out ranks him. Unfortunately for man's arrogance, the disaster took place....
i hope this has helped.
