You would be surprised at how many people don't know the above info.

Amsterdam is in Holland... I have been there.
If it's a question of where to visit first in Holland, visit Amsterdam first. You will almost for sure fly into Schipol airport, which is a 20 minute train ride from downtown Amsterdam.
Anne Frank Huis and Rijksmuseum are musts.
And from Amsterdam, you can get to almost any place in the Netherlands in a few hours.

If I had the chance to go to Holland, I'd like to go with my husband to Amsterdam to visit the Van Gogh Museum. I've been fascinated with his art and his life since I was a child and heard Don McLean's song, "Starry, Starry Night." Later when I was assigned Irving Stone's book about him, "Lust for Life," for a book report, I was hooked for good. For me, Van Gogh's paintings are magic. I've seen some of them at the Orsay Museum in Paris, but I want to see more.

Go to Amsterdam, but avoid holland at all costs. The people there like to have too much fun.

I would go to Texel Island off the coast, because that is my family heritage from my fathers side.
Then, of course, I would hit the cafes for some of the local greenery and I would take my very best friend R.
