Start walking around the house naked. They'll pack their stuff up right quick.

But seriously, try casually asking them what their plans are. Are they on vacation, or in-between rentals? They may get the hint if you circle some ads in the paper and suggest they check them out. Or you can say, "Gee, don't you guys miss the privacy of your own home? I really would." If they're on vacation, try a joke like, "Gee, Bob, don't you ever have to go back to work? I wish I had a job like that."

Some gentle nudging with some friendly ribbing should shame them enough to send them packing.

Delegately tell your guests that nobody will be in the house to serve them because you will be going out yourself for a few weeks. And of course don't do anything silly beause you wouldn't want your guests to have bad feelings on you when they have enjoyed so much staying together.

if they are staying with you, let them know you need your guest room/couch back. If they are visiting, offer a few subtle hints. About 5-10 minutes worth. If they don't get the hint. Then hand them their coats and open your front door, let them know it's been an absolutely lovely time, we must do it again sometime. see you all later.

Every one understands that particular signal, even the most dense..

Take a tip from the supermarkets. Get a bullhorn, and annouce "Ladies and gentlemen, this is a guest announcement. The time is now reeeeallly freakin' late. Your free ride/dinner party/Roman-style orgy complete with dancing bears is now closed. Please make your way to the front door. Thank you for visiting 'My Milkshakes', and we hope you will come again."

If they don't take the hint, start turning lights off!

If you are talking about an evening..staying too late, just say you have to get up early and it is time to call it a night.
If you are talking about visitors who have stayed more than 3 days, tell them that your schedule requires that you must free up your time, that you have really enjoyed their visit, and hope they can do it again soon.

Politely let them know that it is time for you to get back to your normal routine and ask them to leave. If they get hurt feelings than just calmly explain to them that they are guests not roommates.

By tactfully saying so.

Explain that you have some things that you really need to get done, and that you cannot do these things if you have house guests.

If they want to be offended, then that is their problem. You can't go wrong saying wha tyou need to say, if you are nice about it.
