why should anyone else believe your gut feelings about the matter?

You are absolutely right. But that is what it requires. This might sound like a silly answer, but that is what religion or spirituality is based on.... faith, if you don't have it, then what do yo believe in? But it doesn't really matter, because we should all respect each other no matter what our beliefs are.

Faith and reason. What's the matter with that?

Faith is the confident belief in the truth, value, or trustworthiness of a person, idea, or thing. We could not get along without it.

I have faith in the witnesses of the life of Jesus whose memories were written down in the Gospels.

I wasn't there but I also have faith in the writers of history that the following people actually existed: Julius Cesar, Plato, Aristotle, Alexander the Great, William the Conqueror, George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, etc.

Almost all information that we come into contact with is believed on faith in the source of that information.

You don't have to believe my gut feelings in the matter, but I think both George Washington and Jesus are real.

With love in Christ.

Because as the Scripture says, "Faith is the substance of things NOT seen; the evidence of things NOT heard!" It's not what I say, but what thus saith the Lord that matters. Faith is what it's all about. Another Scripture says that "without faith, works are dead." Aren't "gut feelings" a kind of faith?

I thik if you understand the rules for evidence in a court of law you will find that christianity stands up well in the realm of evidence. The court requires the state to prove its case beyond a reasonable doubt, not beyond any possibility of any doubt. The eveidence is eyewitness testimony in the form of the gospels. Matthew and John were both there and they record what they saw. This is evidence that could be sumitted today in a court of law, because it meets the criteria set down for evidence. Not every scrap of paper can be admitted into evidence in a court. Now if you wish to refute this "evidence", you must either submit other evidence of your own, or find some internal inconsistancy to prove to a jury that the evidence is flawed. To read more abot this get Lee Strobel's book THE CASE FOR CHRIST.

They shouldn't believe anyone's gut feelings about anything. unfortunately people in our society need a crutch or what they like to call "faith"
I believe everything in the bible is way over exxagerated and probably a bunch of crap. If jesus really did believe he was the lord's son it was because Mary was insane (in those days you weren't married and a virgin) she probably fed him that crap since birth so he believed it and wound up insane too..
Great guestion!

Your claim must be based on logic and evidence concerning the past
Your Future is based on logic and Faith.
Otherwise, why not Just have faith about everything ppl make up?

Believing and having true faith in God, is the most important thing in our lives! Miracles that have happened to us! When we have witnessed, or survived an unbelievable miracle that was very fatal! That is letting us know that God is truly watching over all of us up in the Beautiful Heavens Above!!!!
God Bless You!!!

There must be a reason that the Faith in Him has survived all these (thousands) of years. There must be - or may be - something to it. (Enough evidence - or "magic" - must have been witnessed from time to time to preserve the Faith.)

an ignorant atheist is just as bad as an ignorant Christian.
remember that, and read up on a little bit of Socratic philosophy before you go around professing empirical data as knowledge. The eyes can decieve just as easily as the heart.
