Actually, it depends upon the Gin.
Don't waste your time on cheap Gin. It taste bad, and will give you a killer headache (of course that goes for about any liquor). It also depends upon how much you like the taste of Gin too!

If you're new to Gin, find a store that carries those little bottles. They give you enough so you can get a good taste. Try them with-out anything, just ice. This is the only way you can determine what you like, and why (they can be sweet, salty, green, perfumey, etc). Then, make your drink.

This is how I do it: Go for about 1/3 to 1/2 glass of ice. Fill to about 1/3 to 1/2 with Good Gin, fill with tonic, stir. You can add a wedge of lime.

2 oz gin
5 oz tonic water
1 lime wedge
Pour the gin and the tonic water into a highball glass almost filled with ice cubes. Stir well. Garnish with the lime wedge.
