I would say yes. Here's a statement to that effect dated June 24, 2005 by Governor Frank H. Murkowski on Rail link progress:
Perhaps one of the most exciting priorities of my administration is improving access to jobs, recreation and resource development opportunities. An Alaska/Canada rail connection is one such project. That is why Yukon Premier Dennis Fentie and I met in Washington, D.C. this week to talk with federal officials about moving forward with a rail link between Alaska and the Lower 48 via Canada.
Imagine someday riding the railroad to visit relatives in the Lower 48, enjoying beautiful scenery and spectacular views aboard a train. Or, if you have a business in Alaska, imagine sending your product via train to buyers elsewhere in the nation. This is a dream I will work to make a reality for Alaska families and businesses.
