For pushup improvement do the following. If you can't do them all at first or if it is too easy then adjust as necessary for you.
PUSH UPS 5 - 10 sets, of 10 - 15 reps each. ( between each set vary how far apart your arms are. regular, wide armed, and close hand )
This will help you hit all the major muscle groups there in your chest, arms, and shoulders.
PUSH UP PYRAMID. Start with 15 reps, take a break for a few seconds do 14, take a break for a few seconds and do 13. Continue until you get to 0. If you feel up to it then start at 1 and go back up the to 15.
PUSH UPS FOR SPEED. Do as many good push ups as you can do in 2 minutes. Multiply this number by 2, take a break for about 5 minutes and do the number you came up with at your own pace. No matter how long it takes. Do this for a few weeks then time yourself again. You will notice an improvement in how many you can do in 2 minutes. Great if your in the Army like I am for improving your Physical Fitness score.
For your abdominals. I suggest doing the following in addition to situps. abdominal crunches, oblique crunches, and flutter kicks.
( do a search for these excersise to learn how to do them)
Also you should take up an activity like jogging or running. This should be done on alternating days about 3 times a week.
You can always add lots more and vary your work out in anyway you want.

number of reps for things like push ups and sit ups are going to change as you start doing them.
You may start out doing a few sets of 30 sit ups at a time, and in a week or two, 30 sit ups will feel like nothing. Just keep increasing the number when you can.
Push ups are similar, but try mixing them up a bit. For instance, for strength increase, do sets of very slow push ups. And to help yourself get cut, do a faster push up. Obviously the number of slow push ups wont be as high as the faster ones.

Try Hindu push-ups and Hindu squats. Both are great exercises that will give you a total body workout. Some say these exercises are superior to using weights. Do a google search on both and you will find information on how they are done.

LOL 15-20 a day. I did around 200 of each a day and i got a six pack in 2 weeks. Just spread them out. Do as much of each as you can at a time, and do that a couple times a day

I do this nearly everynight but I am already , well before I started quite Fit, but it does make a huge difference and you should do about 100 a night/day. Do it for a week then rest, then another week and rest then you should be alright after that. Good luck!
