My cat started drooling a few days ago, and he hasn't stopped. He is making puddles of sticky drool around the house, and I'm getting really worried. Is this a symptom of a disease or something? He is ten years old, and I'm wondering if it's just old age, or if he's sick. My other cat lived to be 15 and she never drooled. Also, he has bad teeth issues, would that have anything to do with it? But I can't have them removed because he is allergic to the anesthetic.

it is definately the bad teeth, my cat had bad teeth and infected gums. she didnt close her mouth all the way because it hurt and so drool came out. have you ever woke up to a wet pillow cause you didn't have your mouth closed..same thing. they will give clindimyacin for infection and may have options for removal that dont involve being put under. an infection will kill if left untreated.

odds are if his teeth are really bad thats the problem and it is only going to get worse. there are different kinds of anesthetics that can be used and i will guaruntee that he is not allergic to them all. i have actually never heard of an animal being allergic to anesthetics but some are more sensitive to certian ones than others. take him to the vet and discuss your options. oh yeah even if it isn't the teeth he could have a foriegn body in his gums, or something stuck in his mouth, either way go to your vet!!

My cat used to drool when he was being petted, it was a sign of comfort.
If the cat has crooked teeth, then maybe that is why he is drooling and with his age, may have a lazy jaw.

Take your kitty to see the vet. It could be due to bad teeth, or his age, but you want to rule out other possibilities as well (don't just assume). If it is teeth issues, sometimes it is a matter of switching over foods, or antibiotics.
I have a kitty who drools when he gets lovies, or when he is asleep.

The first thought that came to my mind was that he may have had a stroke and is having trouble keeping his mouth closed. As far as the bad teeth, all I know is that the bacteria can eventually make its way into the bloodstream and cause problems. Maybe it has something to do with that? I really have no idea...take him to the vet, and best of luck to you.

Right now the smartest thing to do would be to get it tested of any sickness at the vet. But most likley bad teeth wont have anything or much to do with it.

He may have gotten into something that he wasn't supposed to. One of my cats once got into a small jar of liquid potpourri and had a similar problem.
Take him to the vet to make sure he is not poisoned.

My mother in law just yesterday put flea and tick treatment on their cat's neck and it somehow licked it off and then started drooling and acting funny.
