Sure! Once they figure out where they lost it, they'll take it out of your account.

Big ethics question, and I'm sure you'll have plenty of people say they'll take the money. Problem is, the teller WILL be fired and may be faced with prosecution for theft.
On the other side of the coin, you're better than someone who would take the money and run. Ethically, you should point out the mistake and give the money back. Not only will you feel better about yourself, you may even make a friend at the bank and who couldn't use more of those?

A similar thing happened to me, but in reverse. I cashed a check for about $4,000 and the teller gave me $20 short, and with all that wad of money I didn't notice that I was short one $20 bill. So I went happily home, basking in the smell of money. A day later I got a phone call from the bank, telling me they had shorted me $20 and would I please come down and get it. So I went back to the bank and they handed me a $20 bill with my name on a scrap of paper clipped to it. Now, duh...

What would happen in your case is this: then next day you would get a call from the bank telling you that they gave you $400 too much and would you please bring it back? You can run but you can't hide, they'd track you down so unless you want to be involved in a high-speed police chase you better just give them back the money as soon as you realize it. It's not like winning the lottery, you know.

Yes. Not only because it is wrong to steal, but also because the bank teller could suffer a loss from a job due to the mistake.

Yes, because the teller might lose their job over $400.00. Besides could you spend it happily knowing what it may have cost someone else? Its different if you were walking down the street and found $400.00 without ID.

Thsi actually happened a frost bank in san antonio. I told them and they refused to admit the mistake, and I even pleaded with them and they said they didnt do it but they did so I kept the money. And I know someone came out short at the end of the day, and it wasnt me.

You could be recorded on video camera.

Since robbing a bank is a federal offense, the $400 would not be worth it.

It's happened to me at the bank drive through. And yes, I pulled my car over, got out, walked back and returned the money. I'd handle it the same way in the future too.

Yes, because when she/he went to tally up for the day he/she would be off and could lose their job. Also, I would feel too guilty.
If I found it in the parking lot that would be different.

Yes. Because if their drawer is short at the end of their shift, they will be fired. I would not want someone to lose their job over my greediness.
