Then the church would have to acknowledge their whole morality system based on sex being an evil dirty thing and how fantastic abstenance is would be out the door...

Then all there would be left would be an insult to their so called god for all the sexist felmale bashing ans sexisim and calling sex dirty...

Without guilt and shame for normal human drives then they would have liitle control due to sexual repression and people would see them for the scum they are.

People would see that it was not sex thats perverted but repressing it in yourself and others, (often leading to people becoming violent, rapists or kiddie abusers)

There would loose the holier then though as pure rubbish...

And then the system where men have the power would be in question...

Basically sex is good and relgion bad.

It would be saying not just that Jesus had sex and was pretty much like someone normal... But that they probably had a normal relationship...

Ie Jesus pulled and chatted her up, probably could not keep his eyes off her boobs like a normal bloke, probably was involved in typical teenage activity like trying to get a look in the girls baths... then the girls getting their own back American Pie/Porkies type film wise. Matured, kissed and felt up Mary when they dated then had sex in many ways, probably licked out Mary and she gave him blow jobs, him copping a feel of her boobs at any opportunity etc...

Maybe they played a roman version of cops and robbers ie centurians and vestal virgins...frisking Mary for hidden weapons.

Ie that Jesus did not just a do a baby making duty but gave her a jolly good seeing to like any other couple in love and thats what those in love do.

And that therefore to follow in Jesus shoes it would be right to do the same...

Attiudes to fornication and hairy palms (as it would mean a teenage jesus tossed off a lot like any teenage boy), that the whole bases of christian morality etc would be up the spout...

And it would be clear that the pagans, withces and wickens were actually the better folk... etc etc...

And anyone reading all that would have to see the funny side and not get upset as nothing bad above was actually said. Just descriptions of typical affection and human nature.

There are a couple decent answers here already. For instance, marriage is a vocation in and of itself, and that was not Jesus' mission. Also, it wouldn't jive with the 'bride of the Church' metaphors. I think, however, that a third reason is that marriage is believed to be the union of a man and a woman wherein the two become one. Normally, this isn't an issue, but when the husband is also God, wouldn't that inherently deify the wife? There is one God with three persons in Him - the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost. The introduction of a wife would make this number four, and that would be a problem.

And why is it such a problem when Jesus never married and never had any children?

Jesus was the one human being who walked this earth and never sinned. Yes He was born into sin but he was and is not guilty of sin. Otherwise if Jesus did marry then the whole Bible is a lie and and so is God. And when God is a liar then there is no way that he can judge us or trial us for our sins when he himself is a liar. The Bible says do not judge yourselves simply means we are all sinners so who are we to judge others for their sins. My dear you are walking on thin ice with the Lord when you have to accept foolish things like those written in the Da Vinci Code.
The Bible says separate yourselves from the world of sin so that the Grace of God may fall upon you and accepting the Da Vinci Code is definitely not separation.

wow dude! what a bold question. For the most part im not with most of the answers here. There is for sure a problem with the idea that Jesus was married and had children. Ill get to them in a sec, but first, lets keep in mind this is fiction. For those of us with strong faiths in Christ and his saving power through his death on the cross, the reading/watchign of the davinci code poses no problem in changing or chaking our beliefs. For people who are less rooted in God's truth and those who dont believe in Him at all will have lots of trouble getting around the proposed ideas. ok so here are some of the problems that i can clearly see:

~ First, the Bible is Truth. if Jesus was married and had kids, it would have been in the Bible. Its not!! So if all of this stuff was true, it would mean the Bible is not true, and it is, its the foundation of our beliefs and i believe it with my whole heart!. Yeah so you say "it does come from those gospels" well those are totally full of lots of junk that is completely untrue, it even says that one of Jesus's deciples said that woman did not deserve to live, that is deff not something any person who Loved God would say. its trash!

~second, If Jesus was married that would mean he needed a wife. there is deff nothing wrong with marriage (unless its gay, then thats a whole diff story) but Jesus needed nothing from anyone, He is God. God does not share, nor does he need to share power with others. mariage would suggest that he gave into temptations of lust. this one is kind of hard to grasp, but Jesus did not need anyone else to help fufill his life like marriage and kids do for most people.

~third and most importantly, If Jesus was married it would defy the illustration or Jesus's bride the church. This is an important metephor that reflects what a perfect marriage should be, the Husband as head of the home, loves and cherrishis his wife, he would give up his life for her (Like Jesus did for his followers, the church) the wife in return loves her husband and honors him and serves him (like gods followers honor and serve him). **its important to remember that this is not sexist, no a wife is not supposed to do whatever her husband tells her to, and not the husband does not always have to be the Bread winner, but they are to work together, a partnership in the way that love is abundant and each does what is right and they honor god together. but this important illistration which we can learn alot from would be meaningless if Jesus already had a wife.

so in conclusion, i am glad you asked this question and i hope that i have helped u understand why its not true and the reasons that it would ruin basic principles of Living for God

i am astounded at the way this da Vinci deception is making people question the historical Jesus....
Let's not even talk of the deity of Jesus..yet.Historically speaking, the storyline of that book is an old one, which has been recycled periodically over the last 1500 years or so..Dan Brown just dug it up and made himself a millionaire.
The source of the story? The Gnostic 'gospels'-a group of books written between 150-200AD,some historians date them later than this...These were written almost a full century after the deaths of the Apostles of Jesus, and yet the writers claimed that they were the apostles..thus there are the 'gospels' of Peter,Mary Magdalene,Judas,Thomas,Philip, etc -all written after these people had died.
There were a lot of forgeries in those days, written by erudite proponents of different sects,to lend credence to their beliefs...of the greatness of the human spirit, the baseness of the flesh, that God could not take on human flesh because it was sinful and that Jesus could not be divine and so on..there were so many sects and practices, the pagans were fighting the Christians and Jews and different sects were worsening the issue.
Thus the Church called a Council at Nicaea in 325AD to determine the creed of Christians and to officially limit all writings to those that were:
-actual eyewitness accounts of the life ofJesus, not hearsay-this meant they must be written by an Apostle
-accepted by the whole Church and not just a sect
-concordant with the teachings of Christ.
Every historian worth his salt recognises this fact.
The novel was just that- a novel...don't let it confuse you.

ok.... like were u there? this was 2000 yrs ago (approx) not only that but the little bit about the Romans messing BIG style with the Bible WAS true.... so generally who knows... i mean the Romans were history's biggest liars (working on the principle of the winners write the history books) and guess who did all the good works of the lord for the last several hundred years.... The ROMAN catholic church.... my bet is that them bigoted idiots in the Vatican didn't like the idea of there being a love interest of the lord and so deleted her out.... i could go on ranting for quite a while... but i will leave space for anyone else to rant who wants to... by the way.... i love Christians they are so childlike in their naivete

also.. a question for lady love (first answer) why is it morally low to love a woman and to father children upon her within the vows of wedlock?

Jesus is considered by the Roman Catholic Church to have been uncorrupted, the one perfect human, begotten of God who was beyond such things in His ministry on earth.
I prefer to think of Him as a man, like me who followed the customs of his society. For me it is inconceivable that he was not married - He was a man of his time. Mabey the wedding at Caanan was Jesus' wedding, why would the servants tell a guest that there was no more wine? This wouldn't make him any less a saviour, if that's what you believe.

It's not a problem at all. The problem is that that didn't happen and they are making it a gossip about Jesus...the agenda is there, to destroy Jesus' reputation as God and Son of God and reduce Him as a mere man who has a low morality.

There is no problem. why?
It was a fiction movie. If it wants to potray Jesus as a Linebacker for UCLA, no biggy.

Why would you see this a problem?

I have no problem with Casper the ghost either. lol
