There are tons of scholarships that go unclaimed each year. Many $400, $500 or $1000 scholarships never even get applied for because people think it's chump change and not worth applying for. Well, get a few of those $500 scholarships and it'll really make a dent in your tuition bill.

Do a search on scholarships, search your major, your ethnic heritage, your town, your parents employers, your employer, hobbies, high school, local chamber of commerce/rotary/ lion's club etc. Left-handed? There is a scholarship out there for you! Older woman returning to school? There are scholarships out there for you. Do combined searches on more than one criteria "hispanic women aviation scholarships" etc.

Go to the library and ask the reference librarian for a reference book on scholarships. They usually have more than one. There are all kinds of scholarships out there, you just have to start applying yourself and make it your summer career to send out letters everyday for scholarships. Good luck!

As an undergraduate, it is possible to receive additional financial aid if you are independent. However, being considered independent on the FAFSA (the federal fiancial aid application) is a little complicated. See, even if you WERE "emancipated," you can't be considered independent unless you...
* are married
* are seeking a Master's or doctoral degree
* have kids or other dependents
* are an orphan or a ward of the court, or
* are a veteran or are on active duty

So, you'd need to file the FAFSA as a dependent student, which means you must include your dad's income on the form.

That said, once you do that and your school has your FAFSA on file, you can appeal to them to be considered INdependent. You will probably need to provide proof that you are completely self-supporting -- that you pay for everything (rent, food, clothing, insurance, transportation) without parental assistance.

Once you can do that, you should be eligible for additional Stafford loan funding at the very least. If your income (without your dad's under consideration) is low enough, you will probably also see an increase in your eligibility for Pell, SEOG, etc. Good luck!

I might advocate you to reject the mortgage most effective due to the fact you can ought to pay it again . If you're offered any scholarships or presents absolutely receive the ones due to the fact that's unfastened cash. However when you relatively want the mortgage , take what you NEED . Usually with the loans, you will have an choice the way you wish your refund distributed . Most colleges permit you to do both or. Refund disburstment is dependent. It varies from university to university . Most colleges disburse the money a while among past due August and mid Sept.
