Boy, isn't that the million dollar question!! With so many immigrants from Mexico or Cuba and other Spanish speaking countries, there are more and more growing (and spreading) Spanish communities. I'm not against these people, but I thing that if you are going to live in a country, you should learn the language. There is a bill making its rounds in the gov. that states English is the language of our country. I think they should require people to speak English to gain citizenship.

For your information, English is not the official language of the United States. We have no official language, and that is because, with the exception of full-blooded Native Americans, everyone here has ancestors from another country. These countries all have different languages. So before you condemn people for speaking Spanish, think about your own heritage.

I don't feel we as an American society should have to speak anything other than English if we choose not to.
English is our language, we have no other language. You should not have to be bilingual to get a job, and persons who speak spanish should not get preferential treatment to those that do not. Immigrants come here from every country in the world, why only accomodate Spanish speakers. I don't have a problem with people speaking or reading languages other than English, they just shouldn't expect us to change for them.

First of all, "America" includes Mexico, El Salvador, Chile, etc. Second, just because people around you speak a different language doesn't mean you have to learn it. I don't speak Spanish and can get by just fine in the U.S. You sound xenophobic. Get over your bigotry, people speak multiple languages all over the world. The only thing out of control is your fear of people different than you.

If your ask something in Spanish -ask them why and what they said and give them a puzzled look. And if a store owner is talking in front of you to someone--say 'are you talking about me-thats not right' and look offended. Maybe they will be polite and speak English or try to learn so everyone can talk together.
Or learn Spanish.

They aren't asking you to learn their language. I'm guessing they're speaking Spanish because they don't want others to know what they're saying. This is more often the case than them just not knowing English.
Oh, and there's no official language in the US. Sorry.

Because this is life and we have to learn to live in it...God made this land equally for every one so if they choose to speak Spanish and you don't like it then go to a English Speaking store. No one is making you go some where you don't want to go. Obviously they sell Latin products and that is why they need Latin employees and obviously you like to buy those products so why have a cow over it. And if you don't like it go some where else like Albertson's, Minyards or American Eagle etc. etc. Not trying to be disrespect full but that is just what I think. If I don't like the Chinese then I don't go to a Chinese restaurant...easy as that!!!

You don't have to learn their language. I can't speak a lick of Spanish, but I can get my point across, when trying to communicate with them. Maybe just get more educated period?
THE_Czech- I hate people who try to argue over semantics and look like a idiot when they do it.... I have never seen a continent called "America"... although I have seen North America, and South America. Don't be an idiot, and I won't have to make you look like one....
