Constantly people are trying to convert me and my mom to whatever religion they are. I have always woundered why. Is it because they are insecure with their religion or what? If it helps I am not Christian (some of my best friends are) but I am Pagan.

By what you guys/girls have said some of you think that I will go to Hell because of who I am but what you don't understand is that you only know what people tell you about Paganism. How many of you have actually been to a Pagan festival and have meet the Pagans there. The Pagan I know don't try to convert people and we have actually tried to get the locals to come and join us. Some of you however do not think that I will go to Hell for my beliefs and I thank you for that. I agree with what wleef2002, greed and motavation from their religious leaders could be one of the main problems.

Some poeple take evangelizing to the next level. It is not just Christians. Most religions, even some pagan ones, have sects that push their followers to convert others.

When Christianity began, it was a time of intense prosthelytizing because the members wanted desperately to keep the religion alive. Unfortunately, most misinterpreted that by spreading "the Good News" they were meant to convert everyone they could.

Spreading "the Good News" simply meant that people could have relief from their worldly pain and suffering if they gave up the right to judge themselves and others and just accept each other and celebrate their differences.

Jesus never said anything about everyone having to believe in him, personally. What he meant was to believe in the divinity, the Godhead in each one of us. That's what made him the Son of God, and it makes each human being a Son or Daughter of God. He recognized his path was not for everyone and he had all the space in world for other faiths.

Most Christians nowadays see it as their mission to convert others to Christianity because of a misinterpretation. The true mission is to live their lives and respect and love each fellow human, no matter what their creed.

If you are a Pagan and you find joy in your religion, celebrate it! You are human, and by that nature, you are entitled to find your own way to the Divine.

I was a pagan, and I have been to countless pagan celebrations, ceremonies, and gatherings.
The reason Christians want to convert you is because they want to show you how wonderful God's love is.
Personally, when I was a pagan, I wanted nothing to do with Christianity, and hated it when people tried to convert me. But once I opened my heart to the message, it made more sence to me than any of the pagan beleifs that I ever beleived in.

I think it IS largely because they're insecure in their religion, and need validation by being able to convince others of its rightness.

Some people may sincerely believe they are trying to help others avoid Hell in the afterlife. Others may simply believe that their holy book commands them to proseletyze.

But I think the overwhelming majority just want to feel that their beliefs are correct, and so they attempt to convert others as a way of gaining confidence and ego gratification.

However, I think there are also those who have been told by their religious leaders to gain converts, because the leaders know that the larger their flock, the more power and money they can garner.

Christians are required by their religion to try to convert others. The Gospels in the New Testament give the order and so, in order to be good Christians, they must try to bring others into the fold. It's sad, but true. For my part, they have my pity that they must follow so many unreasonable orders, this not being the least of them.

Pagans understand that there are many different Gods and even though we don't agree with them all, we must accept the right of every person to choose their own Patron and practice their religion according to His/Her edicts. If, unfortunately, that edict means they must disrespect our right to do the same, then unfortunately we must bear it and give thanks to our Lady Liberty that we live in a country to protects our rights to worship however we wish despite the insistance of the overzealous.

ok my walk with God is so much a big part of my life that i want to tell every one i know and dont know who He is, what Hes about and that nothing can show how much His love is but telling others, loving others and just helping others. Jesus said
"go and make disciples of all the nations..." Matt 28:19 and "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father, but through Me".John 14:6

I hope this helps you and thank you for hearing me

They try to push their religion on you b/c they believe in their religion and want to try and save you as well. If you truly believe in your religion (such as all Christians will go to Heaven and those who are not won't), then you will try and convert others in order to save them from the consequences of not being a member.

Usually if people push really hard it just means that they are die-hard believers. And while it can be annoying, that is just what they believe.

Because unlike Pagans, most Christians believe that their way is the only way. To them Pagans are heathen who are destined to burn in hell for eternity unless they change their evil ways and accept Jesus as their Lord and Saviour.

I completely agree and sympathize with you! I claim no religion, and yet somehow everyone is trying to convert me, even my own parents! I believe what I believe, people, if I want to find something else I'll find you!!! Some people have no respect!
I feel that religion should be something that a seeker finds, not something that finds the seeker.
