It depends. Did you sign the birth certificate when the child was born as the father before you were 100% sure that that was in-fact your child? The courts could have possibly nailed you for child support simply off of the birth certificate if she presented it at the child support enforcement office. I would contact my local office to find out how they decided you should pay.

Two parts to this, really:
First, establishing paternity is less money than child support. SO the answer, most likey, is you won't get off your butt and get tested. The reason for that is you probaby know they are your kids and don't want it proved (or even vice-versa if you are afraid of the emotional backlash of finding out they arn't yours). In either case, put down the XBox and go get tested.
The legal answer is because you are not fighting for your rights or you do not understand them. See a lawyer. Understand your rights AND responsibilities. If these are kids YOU made by YOUR choice to have sex with YOUR partner, YOU are responsible for them FOREVER, in my opinion. This is not dependent on whether you have PRESENTLY worked out a way to see them or not.
I hope you get tested, and if they are yours you keep trying to establish visitation and, I hope you take responsibility for raising your children to be responsible people in the world and love them. Those kids need love and if you are the dad, you are just the man to do it.

Do you have a court order to pay child support? Or did she just ask you for money?
What you need to do is get in touch with a family law lawyer. The lawyer can than file a motion for the children's mom to come in with the children for paternity testing. Once the results are in things will be done accordingly. If they are your children and you are required to make child support payments make sure you get visitiation if you want it. As long as you keep paying your child suppoort the mother has no right to keep them from you.
If you do have a court order for child support in most cases they do do paternity testing before ordering child support. My boyfriend did faternity testing for two children with his ex wife. One was his the other wasn't.

If you aren't even sure the children are yours you shouldn't be paying child support. Contact a lawyer and find out what your legal rights are as per your state's laws. You have the right to request a paternity test of the children in question.

Is there a legal order? If not then don't. If paternity has not be establish then you don't have to pay. Just remember if the kids are yours then they will go back and accumulate the child support. But first get a paternity test!

My ex hasn't seen his child in years .. he still has to pay ..
If you don't know they're yours then I would go on Maury and ask for a test !
Once you know the paternity then the courts will order how much you will pay !

You shouldn't have started paying for them unless a court ordered you to if you're unsure they're yours. Now you've established status quo and will probably be the legal father even if you're not the father biologically.

if there is no legal order to pay child support, you dont have to pay anything. If paternity is not established there probably is no legal order.

If you have doubts about whether or not you are the father, you could request a paternity test. Aside from that, if you father a child, you are responsible for said child, whether or not you see him or her.
