When Prophet married more than 4, it was not yet forbidden.

MOST OF THE PROPHETS WIFE WERE WIDOWED

Marriage to a widow was a curse in Arabia as well in other major parts of the world such as India. In most of these societies a widow was considered more like a pariah or curse for the entire family. By marrying them he was setting a precedent to reverse the taboo of widow marriage.
Secondly, he was paying back his due to some of the companions who had perished in battles leaving behind widows with children, just as he was also seeking to unify the Arab tribes.

The Prophet's marriages proved to be one of the means of achieving his mission of unifying Arabs.

A still important factor to consider: The most sexually active phase in anyone’s life is before he reaches the age of fifty. We must remember that in this phase, the Prophet had only one wife, Khadijah, who was fifteen years older than him and a widow twice. The Prophet married her when he was twenty-five and she was forty years.

It was only after her death and in Madinah, after he had dedicated himself to the task of building a nation, that he married a number of women belonging to different Arab clans, most of them were widows. Such a function of marriage is inconceivable for us today. It is wrong to judge them by the standards of our modern secular values and ideals.

Yes Muhammad for being a prophet of Islam is above the law and what is allowed for him to do is not allowed for others. Muhammad, however, did not marry 12 times, he married 66 times. These marriages are authenticated in the books of Islam. Muhammad allowed the Muslim, nevertheless, to marry up to 4 times at one time, and it may be acceptable to marry more than 4 if the man can provide justice to all of them. Besides, there are other types of marriages that Muhammad allowed, namely those that have to do with sensual gratification with women during traveling when being away from any of your wives, or if you meet a woman that arouses in you the want to sleep with her. These marriages last only from one day to few days and then each one can go his way after the husband pay sum of money to the woman as per the agreement signed between both when the man asks the women to sleep with him. Furthermore, the practice of sex with a woman is considered as a good deed that God would reward the man on that account and every time the man do it for his woman. So there is no such guilt conscious or sin when you sleep with a woman provided that she is considered a wife of yours by laws of Islam.

Prophet Mohammed (Peace beupon him) didnt marry 5 times, they were nine wives. For any muslim man he canmarry up to four and if he divorced one, hecanmarry another, but this right to a muslim man should be with responsibility and in somecircumstances for example, during wars, when mendie and children are orphans, amancan use thisright to take care of the widow and the child and to provide afather figure to the chld, however he should inform hiswife,if she asks for adivorce she should getone, and if shedoesnt agree,he should drop the idea to save his marraig because it is a priority,as if men want women they should marry them, out of respect ,andfor men and women to haveduties and rights towards eachother. For Prophet Mohamed, hewasnt alowed to divorce any of his wives, and cant use that right granted to any muslim man. These where orders of God that Prophet Mohamed (Peace be upon him) obeyed. What westerners dont know is thatProphet Mohammed used to help his wifes in house work, and said that if a man has three daughters and raises them well goes to heaven, for more inf go to www.islamonline.com

I think its a sin to marry a 6-year old too, but that didn't seem to stop him, so I think he felt he was above the law. Kinda proves to me he was not a true prophet, if anything, the opposite.

Through my reading in Muhammed's biography, I noticed he had violated his own teachings many times, especially when it comes to women. He married Aisha without her consent (although he taught people to have a consent from the woman they were marrying), he killed his oppnents in violent ways (although he taught his people to be just and tolerant), and many other contradictions.

Maybe some of his wives died? If he had children-it was very commonplace back then for women to die during childbirth.
