My stepmother is a Brazilian native.
It does not matter what country you come from, only on your employment status.
A married foreigner (to a British citizen) has the right to live in the U.K. but is not istantly given citizenship. To earn citizenship it will take approximately 3 years, for a working person, or 5 and a half years for a non-working married person.

Fly your spouse to Chicago and get her visa there. I got married to a US Citizen in Houston (I'm British by the way) and my husband flew to Chicago to get his spouse visa. Providing all your documentation is in order you can drop your paperwork off before 10am and collect it same day after 3pm. Which is what he did. He flew to the UK the following day.
