Go to Walmart's pet department and get some spray for pet urine. Works great.

1. spend time with your cat, don't ignore it or be too busy. Also always have fresh water and food out, and clean litter every day as cats love a clean litter box. 2 you can rename a cat anytime. My male cat started out as cleo (thought it was a girl) then Lee, then LeeBoy. My husband calls him Fuzzy, Felix, Ralph.... and more. My cat learned his name LeeBoy by me singing it to him with prrrr prrrr prrrr words. He does know his name but it took a very long time to get him to understand it. 3 you can make toys if you have time. Tinfoil balls. Tie up feathers and glue the string you tied it with. can attach a string so you can bounce the feathers along. Not all cats consistently like catnip. mine did now doesn't. small dollar store stuffed animals work good. Can put cat nip inside it! i have a small silly pink dog for LeeBoy and nothing is funnier than him carrying that thru the house! 4 A name will come to you in time. Really! 5 cat box: clean litter tray with a slotted scoop. Every month totally empty and wash with soap and water and put in new litter of your choice, but not a dusty kind, it makes cats sneeze. most of all enjoy getting to know your new cat!! : )

I use baking soda and water -- sometimes mild antibacterial hand soap with water, too.... This way it does disinfect, and the possibility of smell later on is eliminated.
If you just spray febreeze, that's not really cleaning it, it's just masking the smell.
Use a sponge or scrub brush to work in the baking soda or mild soap, let it sit for a while, then blow dry it if you want it to dry quickly... otherwise, let it air dry

Don't use clorox cleanup like one person said it will bleach your couch. Try a wet cloth to wipe up excess and then use febreeze. Good luck I'm having the same problem with mine. I make my son sit on a thick blanket on the couch. That seems to catch most of it.

I've seen commercials for a product called "Urine Gone". They would use it under black lights and the urine on carpets, bathroom floors, etc. would disappear, as well as the smell... I'm not sure where you'd find it though...

Nature's Miracle works great. You can find it at any pet store. Just test your fabric first.
