Liberals only think of the present and what they want now. They don't look at the big picture and consider what the consequences
of their actions and demands will be further down the road.

Funeral was good, huh?
Let me tell you what really bothers me. It is people who wave the flag, or put a flag on their lapel and harp about how "freedom isn't free" and how they "attended" a funeral and feel all this pride about their country and then they politicize being an American.
They claim some ownership on patriotism, they claim that free speech is theirs and theirs only. They take people, and stuff them into a group, a class, a name that fits their need of hating other people.
They talk about how great freedom is, but they never talk about the freedom to travel country as a military child, the freedom to live in poverty as a soldier, the freedom to fill out welfare forms that you are given as a new recruit, the freedom to die in a VA hospital of a sepsis infection due to poor care, from lack of funds. THAT is reality. No, that's not fun to talk about, it's easier to wave that flag and feel that pride well up inside.
They talk about how "great" a funeral is "especially at Arlington", like it's the new summer blockbuster on a Friday night. They speak for men that died as if they knew the fear of sitting holed up on a roof pinned down by gunfire while their best friend dies. They speak of God, and even politicize that.
They pretend that they experienced the life that a soldiers family knows and lives. Those are the Americans that I don't understand. Those are the Americans that need to learn that an Americans life is worth more than a political statement to denigrate other Americans.
You want a clever catchphrase, bro? Semper Fi

It kills me that someone actually thinks that all Liberals hate the troops and hate America. Sir, do you actually think that every single soldier in our armed forces right now are Conservatives? No Liberals??? What the hell? I am getting so angry just typing this out. You make me sick. I'm a Liberal, my family is Liberal, I have friends who are Liberal, and I don't know a single person that doesn't respect and honor those veterans who died fighting for us. In fact, the only people I have noticed that are trying to SAVE our troops from the devastation in Iraq have been Liberal Democrats...the Republicans want to send more! You dumb SOB...I should report you for inciting hate by making it seem evil to be on the other side of the aisle as you are. But I won't...you have a right to an opinion as do I. Perhaps we should examine the word freedom, because what you might think of as freedom might be some else definition of slightly limited. Yes people do for the most part admire our men in uniform who in some cases make the ultimate sacrifice. In as much; I'm so sick and tired of Americans fighting with each other, by calling individuals liberals, or right wingers. Its time that we as Americans stand united in the face of the various things that are tearing this country apart. Personally I think that both parties in charge are screw-ups! My faith in the Executive and Legislation has demised greatly. We have too many issues like the Katrina aftermath; Iraq War; Economy; Children Education; Border and Security Issues; Illegal Immigration problems; and an internal society that's going to hell in a handbasket. All this while people call each other names and sit on their FAT A**s. Stop it, and UNITE!!!!!

No. History for liberals started on 11/2/2000 - when Bush was voted into office. They really have no memory of the 80 years before where our brave troops died in battle to protect their freedoms & rights to be dissenters (which means that they are being patriotic). What a load of crap. Not to mention that in public shcool they were most likely taught that America is an evil greedy nation that tortures the poor & down trodden and invites forgien criticism because of foriegn policies.

I've been to Arlington, as well as the NH veterans cemetary. I've put flags and flowers on graves on Memorial Day. I have nothing but respect for those who would put themselves in harms way to protect our country.
I do not like the phrase "freedom isn't free" however. Most people who embrace this slogan undoubtedly feel that our freedom is threatened by malevolent forces external to our country. This external threat has usually been an abstract concept, and has morphed through the years from fascism to communism to terrorism.
I have always viewed "freedom isn't free" as a dumbed-down version of Thomas Jefferson's pronouncement that "The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants." Indeed, many people consider these two statements interchangeable.
But I think the Jefferson quote must be viewed in the context of this passage from the Declaration of Independence: "That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness."
Thus, the tyrants to whom Jefferson refers are not external. They are internal.
Do Conservatives REALLY know the committments and sacrifices that are necessary to preserve our country? Do they REALLY support the troops? Sending them off to fight a war on foreign soil while voting to cut their pay and benefits at home? That's not respect, that's a disgrace.
Don't assume that liberals don't know about the sacrifice. My father was buried with military honors 6 years ago. I have had ancestors fight and/or die in every war in this country since the King Phillip War (break out your history book). I got a letter from Veteran's Affairs today about the personal information theft. Did you?

I am a liberal and I am also a veteran.... I served in desert storm. Hey, Why don't you enlist and see first hand what sacrifice is all about...Most of you conservatives are chicken-hawks...Your viewpoint is extremely skewed! You honestly think that every tombstone belonged to a Conservative republican? People like you deserve need to take your blinders off and grow up! Try visiting a Veterans hospital and ask these men what their political affiliation is...I am sure you will see how diverse the viewpoints are. Damn, its people like you that give conservatives a bad name! That was a very prejudiced statement!

I am a liberal. I attended the funeral of my nephew who was killed in a roadside bomb in Fallujah. I noticed that there weren't any conservatives there.
The governor of our state was there. He is a liberal democrat. And his mother was there, she works for the liberal democrat who is our governor.
I noticed that conservatives in Congress generally do not send their children to Iraq.
Barbara and Jana Bush are not there. The last time a President's family went to war, it was the husband of Lynda Bird Johnson. His name is Charles Robb, former Senator from Virginia. Lyndon Johnson was a Democrat.
Freedom isn't free for Ken Lay, either. Hot damned how that works. He is a real conservative and a real Bible thumper. His kids didn't go to Iraq.
My father is buried in Willamette National Cemetery. He was a liberal democrat who came home from World War II.
What are you talking about?
Maybe you need treatment for post traumatic stress.

Most Liberals and most Americans understand the sacrifices the service people do for our freedom that is why Liberals fight the most against putting them in harms way in less absolutely necessary but are calles cry babies by some.

Are you suggesting that not supporting the Waste of blood and money in Iraq is unpatriotic?
I got ten years servicetime and two honorable discharges and I have met people of all stripes in the Military.
