Yes it's rude! It would be one thing if her family didn't know any English but if they do she shouldn't make you feel uncomfortable. I'm hispanic and my bf is american when my family that doesnt speak english talk to me and he's around i translate for both of them so everyones in the conversation and if we start laughing i tell him right away why so not to make him think it's about him. Tell her to stop and include you in the convo and to translate.

Yeah it is rude, but also good idea of what she is saying. Think she is saying it to people who also speak English. She speaks it in a language YOU don't speak. She won't tell you WHAT they are saying. Hmmm sounds pretty clear as to where THAT is going. I say learn French or some other language, preferably something she won't easily pick up on and she proably would with French as it is a Romantic language like Spanish. Anyway find a language she won't pick up on easy. Even a few words. Get some friends who can learn it as well. Pull this crap on her. When she asks about what you are saying don't tell her. Then say well it isn't rude you already told me that.

Oh, you dang betcha it's rude. Practice your Spanish, but don't let on that you can speak it. Find out what they are saying (most likely, "I have a bunyon" "You have a bunyon? Look at this goiter I got!") and smile. Then, some day when they do mention you, speak up in Spanish and shock the poo out of them. They'll wonder how long you've been on to them and respect you all the more.
Seriously, the above is funny fantasy. What you should really do is tell you wife that this really really bothers you and if she does it again, she can find another partner.

You dont even want to get me started on this conversation. I just had a fight with my husband about this. IT IS VERY RUDE to speak another language in front of another person who don't speak that language, I'm tired of this **** already.

I have to agree that it is rude. my story: I lived in with a frenchie; I do speak french, but not the slang he and his buds tended to use.. I also speak spanish. I found it EXTREMELY rude when he would have friends over and they would absolutely speak NO english... though ALL of them could!!. usually, I was cooking incredible meals for these jerks.. I could hardly get a "thank-you" in english out of them. The best thing I did was to leave him! REALLY irritiating!!! So, I'm with you!

Yes, it is rude. It's rude to do it in stores, offices, etc., and it is most certainly very rude to do to one's spouse.
Tell her that you don't want her to do that anymore, because it makes you feel bad. It's so disrespectful to have a "private" conversation about another person when they are sitting right there.

It IS rude! When you know someone doesn't speak the language, you should speak the one that everyone knows. It's called being inclusive.
