I adopted a dog with kennel cough and she did recover. Just stick to the antibiotics as your vet instructs and keep as much fluid in your puppy as he will allow. Just PLEASE keep in contact with your vet if any other problems creep up. Don't wait around. I hope your new baby gets well soon! : - ) *** I have done greyhound rescue for years and in the past year and a half there has been a new strain of kennel cough to come about. Someone on here said that antibiotics may not always work and she is correct. But don't panic!!! This doesn't mean that your dog wont get well. Just please keep in close contact with your vet.

I still consider my 1 year old dog a puppy. He recently came down with Kennel Cough after being boarded for 13 days. All the reading I did on it stated that it is a virus and that antibiotics would not be guaranteed to help. Use of a cough suppressant can make the dog a lot more comfortable, whether antibiotics are used or not, so I put him on cough syrup and this did help control his coughing. However, the articles I read stated that if the dog stops eating and doesn't want to play, that they could develope into pneumonia and that could be a problem.
Keep the collar off the dog for a while as the articles I read advised that can annoy them.
Hope this helps a little.

yea last year my boyfriend got me a boxer that was 3 months old. He bought her from a pet store. Turned out she had Kennel Cough. It was horrible she was coughing up so much mucus. We took her to the vet and got her meds and you better believe the vet paid for the visit too! haha. Yea well now shes a year and 3 months and shes totally recovered. I hope your puppy gets better...its horrible that so many dogs are sick. I wish I could take them all home and care for them....but its just not possible! Good luck with everything and Ill pray everything goes well.

I do dane rescue. Brought home 2 pups who came down with Kennel Cough. They gave it to my 2 grown dogs. The pups had antibiotics, the 2 adults had no antibiotics. They all got over it at about the same time.
This past year I took a 6 month old to Petsmart. He came down with Kennel Cough. No antibiotics, and he got over it in 2 weeks and my older ones did not catch it from him. Only the original 2 pups had been vaccinated for it.
Sounds like your pup got a pretty nasty case of it. Good Luck!

yes I too bought from a pet store and my mini daschund had kennel cough and she did recover from it. It took 2 rounds of antibiotics and 2 vet visits to cure it though. The upside is that the pet store took care of the bill as she got it there so maybe check with the place you bought your dog from and see if they will do the same.

No breeder that registers their litters with the CON Kennel club is a robust breeder. No solid breeder sells a canine at 6 weeks that is loaded with fleas. No solid breeder sells a canine as a present day to somebody else. So, do you relatively think of this back backyard BREEDER is going to furnish you some a refund? in case you do, you choose your head analyze. Now, in case you think of they're working a domestic dog mill, call the government. another element that purely popped into my head.....if this canine grew to become right into a present day, WHY could you assume any a refund? in view which you paid the Vet bill? tell the guy who offered this domestic dog reachable $800.00 over to you.

Kennel caugh is a virus like a cold and anti biodics will not help. You must treat the symptoms to make them less and this has to run it's course just like a person with a cold
