I understand that washing down the engine compatment is not the greatest idea in the world and may result in problems much worse than a grime/dust covered engine. While posting my original question I was letting the engine cool off with the help of a a box fan for about 20 minutes. Also I had removed the neg battery terminal (something I remembered my Mitsubishi service mech tell me he did before.
Now, when the engine had sufficiently cooled (important) I put the neg batt terminal back on and started it up. I let it idle for about 20 minutes and then took it out for a little drive.
Besides a little sputtering in the initial acceleration...it ran awesome! problem solved. I recommend this procedure if you find yourself with a bad running vehicle right after you have washed the life out if the engine.
If you do chose to wash your engine with a power spray take care not to direct high pressure streams of water at any vacume hoses or any geewiz looking electrical components.

Did you get some wax or any other kind of gunk on an O2 Sensor? That has been known to reak havoc.

Why did you wash the engine? Only bad things happen when you spray water in the engine bay. Unless you plan on eating off of the valve cover, don't wash the engine.

drive it to let it dry, next time try covering the distributor cap with something before washing it

you either got moisture in your distributor cap but on most new cars your coils are on top of your spark plugs individually if you got those you will be paying 300 to 500 to get it fixed (Hyundai dealer Carolina)

let it air dry use fans you got the electrical wet and you should be ok but yeah cover up it better next time
