Only as a last resort. You need to change your diet, get rid of refined carbs, sugars and high fat foods. Eat more fruits, vegetables and protein. Get 8 hours of sleep a night, drink plenty of water and always be hydrated. Exercise regularly.
If after all that, then maybe antidepressants. The majority of depression can be helped with lifestyle. Your doctor can recommend the right anti-depressant to start on if you must. Everyone is different and reacts differently.

Here's how I look at it..your brain is a physical part of your body, like your stomach or your heart. If there is something out of whack,or unbalanced, you can many times get it back into working order with medication. Somehow, there is a stigma attached to taking anti-depressants.But in truth, they have helped many people.I take them (Effexor), and many people I know take them, for many different reasons. I've seen people's quality of life improve due to taking them. As long as you are monitored by a physician..they may be just what you need.

Hell no..! don't take it for several reasons.first,u will become addicted to them if u use them more than a week.Second they r like placebo, they help cause u think they help. Now if u use them for a long time u r going to be more depressed b between the doses and u might need to raise the dose after a while. If u don't then say welcome to headaches, nausea, anorexia and a lot of depression.U can work depress without medical help.Try some yoga lessons if u want!dont take them cause they are DRUGS in a formal way!Bye

I take them, but I think it depends on the situation. I have been on a lot of different medications over the past 15 years and I like Cymbalta the best. I've heard many other people have had success with it as well.

I take Prozac, and my mom takes Lexapro. Both work really well. The only problem, is that you have to have a prescription. Prozac works very well for me. It boosts my mood quite a bit.

i take effexor xr and it works for me. it helps without making me space out all the time. it makes me feel "normal". i was on lexapro for over a year and after a few months, it stopped working. it also made me space out everyday and i hated it!
