use positive reinforcement. Tell him is he goes a day with out making threat he get a ticket and when he get so many We did 10 he can pick a prize. We would start with 10 and when that got to be easy we would up the number. Another way is a jar that every time he makes a threat he has to put a quarter into but this only work with kids that get an allowance.
