"And it came to pass, that at midnight the LORD smote all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, from the firstborn of Pharaoh that sat on his throne unto the firstborn of the captive that [was] in the dungeon; and all the firstborn of cattle." Exodus 12:29-30

the bible said that god knows everything, so he knows that the Pharaoh will choose not to release the slaves, so, he knows he will kill all that children, this god choose to kill the children instead the Pharaoh, there is no excuse for this, plus if this god is all powerful he had hundreds of choices, (HUNDREDS) … but he choose to kill the babes.

"the great plan", kill children with no mercy, if such a god can not create something less evil it does not worth a penny

I think people not believing in God because "why would a God bring hurt, sickness, suffering on his people" is such a cop out. It is annoying. As far as the story about Egypt and everything, God was showing his power and his seriousness to the Pharaoh, it had to be done. God wouldn't do something like that for his "pleasure" but for his plan, and his plan is right.

I have a belief as to why God sent the plagues to the Egyptians the way he did. I will only explain the killing of the first born.
The Egyptians worshipped several gods.
Min - God of fertility coalesced with Amon and Horus. Min was mainly worshipped at Coptos and Akhmim.
Osiris - He is regarded as the dead king that watches over the nether world and is rejuvenated in his son Horus. As the symbol of eternal life he was worshipped at Abydos and Philae.

God showed the Egyptians that their gods were not real, by showing that he was the supreme power in every respect. When he killed the first born sons, he showed that he was God not Osiris, and that Osiris could not bring back anyone's son. Proving that the myth of him being rejuvenated in his son Horus was a lie.
Also those babies were not killed, God called them home. They were innocent, so they will never see hell, or pain, or suffereing. They are with him right now. I would like to escape judgement in such a way.

God created a world that was perfect and free from death. It was man that sinned and brought death into the world.
