say exactly what you just said. You value the friendship and do not want to risk losing it. If he values the friendship, he will understand.

I think you know what you must do,
You just said it, You don't want to ruin the friendship.
And that is what you have to make him see, you must sit him down and explain it the same way but, in a nice tone.
Say "(his name here) Listen, I like you but, not in the way you like me and the thing is that I want to keep you as my friend, and I think that if we get involved with each other if things don't work out we may no longer be friends" If those are not the words you want to use per-say you have to let him know that he has a special place in your heart and your life and you need him as a friend and not a boyfriend, friends are around a lot more longer than boyfriends sometimes, and you would be lost with out him being your friend.
Something to that effect it may work if he does really care for you, you may not know what the future holds for the two of you but, for now it holds a friendship.
Now that is what I would say to some one who may be crushing on me, and I didn't feel the same way as they did.
I hope you do find a way to break it to him so you can remain friends because there is nothing like a true friend that you can depend on, these days.
They come far and in between.

I'm sorry that's BS. Either you like him or you don't. The second he told you his feelings was the second you lost the power to decide if you can save the friendship. If you don't want to date him you have to tell him, you can use that "don't want to ruin the friendship line" if you want, if he is dumb he might even fall for it. But it's now up to him if he can stay friends with a girl who regected him.

well, if you really like him and want to go out with him, then i would. just take things really slow so it doesn't ruin your relationship. if you go too fast, it will be weird to be around each other if you break up. if you only like him as a friend, just tell him that. it will be weird for a little while after wards but eventually it will get back to normal. whatever you do, do it because you want to or you won't be happy!

either way it seems like you might ruin the friendship. if you say no to him, it will hurt him and he won't want to be your friend anymore. just go ahead and go out w/ him... he might surprise you. and if you don't like him, just tell him you liked it better as just friends and he might agree with you. just try it.
