I have no info. on depo causing birth defects. Obviously, if you were receiving it WHILE pregnant there would be an issue.
As far as what to eat while pregnant...healthy healthy healthy!! Fruits, veggies, lean meats, good things for your baby because it all goes right to them! And a prenatal vitamin is very important!

"Bad foods" would include most fast food items like hamburgers, fries, and all those artery-clogging yummies. You should also limit sweets, cakes, and most snack foods like chips. The reason these are all considered "bad" is because although they taste good, there is almost no nutritional content. So, you would probably gain alot of weight, but your baby might be born underweight because he or she would not be getting enough vitamins and minerals.
Good foods would include fruits, vegetables, lean meats, eggs, and an occasional treat. If you stick to these types of foods, you wouldn't gain too much weight, and your baby would be born with a normal birth weight. Be sure to take pre-natal vitamins and get plenty of folic acid (most easily found in cereals). You should try to get your fats from nuts, eggs, and such. Your doctor can give you a list of the best foods to eat while pregnant.
Although I don't have any experience with Depro Vera, I think if you continue to take ANY birth control after you become pregnant, there would be a small (rare) chance of birth defects. If you stop taking birth control as soon as you find out you are pregnant, things should go pretty smoothly.

It's different for every person. It's not really logical. I used to eat bananas and parmesan cheese (sprinkled on lettuce) and those foods are often on a lot of people's unsafe list. Then again, I could never eat yogurt or almonds (when I found out they were seven calories each and two calories from fat, I felt more betrayed than Jon Snow) but a lot of anorexics would totally eat these. Generally an anorexic will find a few foods that they feel they can eat and portion safely, and have weird obsessions with them. I would down packets of aspartame and binge on frozen corn (your body can't process the nutrients in that form). A lot of anorexics will eat rice cakes, though I never could because carbs. Diet Coke is an entire food group. Seriously, even though it hurts like a ***** to swallow, you just constantly down it. Obviously green tea, lettuce, celery is a big one.

Any form of birth control (depo provera included) can cause serious complications - best to get off it and wait 6 months before getting pregnant.
As for food, avoid lots of seafood or cold cuts (which contain nitrates). Eat what is good for you - fruits, veggies, meat, whole grains etc. Also, apples are particularly good for their folic acid, which prevents certain deformities and complications .

This is fresh fruit season. I was pregnant at this time too and my doctors told me to be careful eating too much watermelon and grapes. Even though they are healthy, eating too much of them is not. They contain alot of sugars that arent great for you. So just eat in moderation. Try eating salads and protein enriched foods. Steak and chicken are great.
Good luck!

Spicy foods are bad, no sushi it contains mercury that is harmful to your unborn child. There is a book that I would reccomend its What to expect when you are pregnant I used it a lot when I was pregnant. It shows you what foods to eat and recipes that help you with committing.

Avoid tuna and swordfish totally. Spicy stuff might give you horrible heartburn. Avoid a lot of sodium and try not to salt your foods.
Eat healthy foods...fresh veggies and fruits. You need a lot of iron and calcium, so drink milk for sure. Try to get plenty of folic acid. Orange juice has a lot of folic acid.

good foods are those high in protein and carbohydrates. foods that have fat should be avoided. equally important is an exercise program for yourself so that you stay in good shape as your body changes. also the exercises will make it much easier to regain your figure after delivery. your doctor can supply you with lots of information on nutrition.
