As a Pagan I would say what is written about God in the Bible is confusing, to say the least. In the Old Test you have him wiping out everyone in the world, except Noah and his family. (You can not convince me that the babies killed in a flood Deserved what they got). But in the New Test he's suddenly in love with everyone and wants you to visit him in Heaven. I think, as far as the Bible is concerned, that we are only getting the writers opinions... So when you read about God killing even innocent people (such as sending Moses into the neighboring nation to kill everyone, including livestock... EXCEPT the VIRGINS... don't forget, he needs virgins... and this is after God tells him "Thou Shalt Not Kill), I believe we are reading that writers idea of what they want God to be.

The smiting and eternal damnation is our choice because God gave us a brain and free will to choose what our fate would be. God is not evil!!! Get real! We can't blame our own decisions good or bad on anyone but ourselves.

Evil? By your definition, ALL parents who spank or punish their kids for doing something wrong are evil. From your logic, if you have kids and have spanked or punished them in any way, you are evil.
God pretty much does that, He punishes those who astray from His commands. Like how a father says, "You will not hit that kid across the street." And the kid does it anyway, then the father punishes the kid.
And eternal damnation is a consequence of your own sinful actions. YOU bring it on yourself when you ignore God and choose to live without regarding His standards. The thing is, without Jesus Christ, nobody can ever live a righteous life because we are born into a sinful nature. We need Christ to wash away our sins, so God will forgive us of our sins and not count them against us at judgment.

Christians can't just ignore the Old Testament because it is supposed to be the word of God. When Christians following the Old Testament couldn't get enough money in the collection plate, they had to write up the New Testament to make God more loving. It was just a business tactic to increase the power of the Church to lead people into an illusion of safety in the afterlife.

When people read Bible context carefully, it will contradict human logical mind and human nature.. which result in producing people like u which i am not surprised at all.. Only wise people will act like u, but however it can sometimes be too extreme that those people definitely REJECT GOD.
the church will say.. u dont understand and misinterprated it... when actually the church was the one who interprated it with their own imagination, such as, "i and father are 1" meaning Jesus is God; "first there are words, and the words with god and the words is God" meaning God is 1 which ARE the father, the son and Holy spirit. What kind of translation is that?
Infact in Bible Jesus always admit he is only human, God messenger and a prophet.. and Jesus himself pray to God believe in God and asked God for help, what kind of God is that, if Jesus really a God? but the interpreter IGNORE this DIRECT CONFESSION OF JESUS! and lastly will said.. if u dont believe u will lost!! aint that totally blind faith?????

I have a fear for people who would even think that God is evil , He is not in no way , shape , or form evil what bible are you reading because i have read mine and have never seen this in my bible the King James version, please read it then decide if you think it is evil. My God is a loving God , think about this " why would he send his son to die on a cross for sinners if he is so evil " could you do that , ?Please let me encourage you to investigate further.
