of course, just like others have said, people food is a big no no. dogs also choose food by what it smells like and not what it tastes like- of course, as a marketing ploy- alot of food manufacturers design food that seems appealing to *humans*- this does not mean it is appealing to dogs. I dont know what you are feeding right now, nor what breed your dog is (which can be an important factor). the best food for dogs is dry food- even if the dog is missing teeth- remember they are not human and their digestion works differently- they *can eat* a whole kibble just fine without chewing and still receive all nutritional benefits! wet food aside from having less nutritional value- also contributes to gum disease and tooth decay. If you are having trouble feeding your dog, there could be a number of factors at play. How often are you feeding- or are you free feeding? dogs should generally only be fed once a day. if you insist on twice- split the portion up to two meals. a good food for finicky dogs (often toy breeds) is food by Royal Canin. They have food designed for specific breeds and it has an additive that encourages eating by sence of smell. it is ok to add a small bit of the dog gravy to the food (again depending on the breed/size etc etc) to make it more enticing- but again, remember what is enticing to you may not be enticing to your dog. quality dry food is always the best- take into consideration age/activity level and current weight- and by all means, keep your dog off of people food- set a set feeding schedule- same time each day- and he will eat. if the problem worsens and he becomes dangerously thin- then i suggest a visit to the vet.
hope this helps

My dog has the same problem. Im telling you right now if you see a vet alls they will do is tell you to by there food witch is 4 times the amount that you would get a store. I would stop feeding him people food right away. Treats are great for training but dont over do it. I would use wet food from a can to top off the dry food a little bit (dont over do it cause he will pick around and eat the good stuff). Again, my dog had the same problem and hes finaly comming around. If it persists I would tell your vet, However do not fall for the trap of buying the food they have there it does not work!!!!

If he'll still eat table scraps, just not his kibble, it's because he's holding out for something better. Do not give him any more human food or treats under any circumstances, and he'll give in and eat the kibble. Try mixing the kibble with half a can of canned dog food to convince him to eat it, then gradually decrease the amount of canned food every day until he's back to just kibble.

It could be a parasite infection. This happened to one of my foster dogs. I would suggest taking him to a vet for a fecal check. If you can't afford a vet see if there is a Mobile Pet Vac in your area. They not only give shots but do other routine services as well. Even though the dog may eat YOUR food the parasites in the stomach and intestine are eating the digested food and not allowing your dog the necessary nutrition. Does his belly look fat but still have a lot of ribs showing? PLEASE GET YOUR DOG SOME MEDICAL TREATMENT.

If you've given him people food and treats, he's holding out for the really good stuff. It could be too that he doesn't like the food you bought. Try some other brands.
My dogs do that, wait for the good stuff. But there are also dog foods they simply won't eat. It took trial and error before I narrowed it down to 2 brands/types.

Maybe your dog doesn't like the taste of it's food. Instead of just feeding him/her human food, try a new dog food brand or even flavor. Also try rubbing liver treats over the dog food. You may even want to buy that IAMS sauce to squirt on the food. Good luck!
P.S. You can feed your dog parts of carrots as a healthier treat!

He is spoiled. He will eat people food. My dog refuses to eat dog food because I started letting him have people food. I tried for two weeks and he would not eat much . Gave him people food he eats like a pig. He also loves his treats. So if he will eat people food he is okay. If he want eat people food you probably need to take to a vet.

His stomach may be upset and he doesn't want to eat yet. Or it could be the type of food you're giving him. He may want a different kind. My dogs are the same. They get tired of the same food. They need variety. lol!!!
Try letting outside. If he eats grass and vomits that may show you that his stomach is upset as I've already said.

1. He's not hungry.
2. He's sick.
3. He doesn't like the food.
4. He just ate the neighbor's cat (which would actually be answer number 1)

Do not give him people food, people food is for people not for dogs. Just give him dog dry food and nothing else. He will eat it, give him a few days. If you think he is dehydrating, instead of regular water, give him Pedialyte, this is what pediatrician give to the babies when they are sick or don't feel well. Good Luck!!
