"the present heavens(universe) and earth by His(God's) word are being reserved for fire, kept for the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men...the day of the Lord will come like a thief, in which the heavens will pass away with a roar and the elements will be destroyed with intense heat, and the earth and its works will be burned up." (2 Peter 3)
In light of God's revelation, we should be investing in and looking for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.

Now, my dear, no need to perform open heart surgery in the guise of questions... But I shall do my best to answer your question.
So, science wise there is almost nothing eternal in the whole universe (which includes Earth) and it is only very temporary event. Religious wise it is a place that is to change into an everlasting Eternal place after a certain date (and may contain Eternal souls etc. in Heavens and Hells within it - for ever). Unfortunately, the religious way can not be convinced as people will question the existance of God, if he is still around, logical pitfalls such as omnipotence etc. and how we know if religious books were really inspired by god (and some even asked me to prove what ruled out devil as the author) - and the list is endless. now the science idea has lots of observations and calculations to support it - but there is no need to force that view on anyone who believes otherwise (as nothing is PROVED so far).
One alternative I offer you is to turn to Eastern religions/philosophy. Why? They mostly say universe is a cyclic phenomena - there is no end or bigining of it. just go around cycles of death and recreation - for ever, eternally. But you see, this is a bit hard to dislodge as Universe exists in some form always (therefore Eternal), but alas as it keeps so changing form and composition so radically it is so ill defined and lasts only a short while to fit any description (therefore Temporary)!!!!!
Now, how is that?

The universe is much larger than what we can see or perceive. And, is eternal, it had no beginning and will have no end.
The earth is an insignificant part of the universe and will come to end, as will our visible universe.
The universe(s) are in a continual state of transition, but they do not begin, nor end, they merely transit from one form to another. Humans are an even tinier part of that process.
Our bodies cycle in the same manner.
Everything in the universe is made up of the same stuff and we call it "energy" for lack of a better term. That "energy" arranges itself into "matter" (bundles of energy) of varying shapes, sizes and purposes.
It just goes on and on forever . . .
Simple as that.

The answer is yes, on both counts. The very definition of temporary means something along the lines of "lasting for a limited time". But what we're missing in this definition is that things will last for a limited time in it's current shape, or condition.
Even the mountains are temporary--errosion, violent eruptions, earthquakes change them, shape them, but the matter that makes them up sticks around for an eternity.
Another way to look at it is this: You and I, our life in the universe is temporary--once it's over, we rot, get eaten by worms, etc, but at no point are we completely gone. Not only that, but life itself continues on, and on.
That is, until the aliens come and blow up our planet to construct an intergalactic expressway.

well the answer to both is yes in two different ways. The earth is not going to last forever, eventually, maybe billions of years from now, it will become a dead planet. The universe may implode- nothing is for certian so it is not forever. The earth and universe for us is temporary becuase when we die, though our bodies may stay here, our souls go to heaven.

It has to be eternal since all matter is eternal and existence can never not exist it is merely manifested in different ways. Stars don't appear from nothingness. They form from elements and when they die they do not disappear into nothingness, their energy has merely dissipated and become something else.

God Promises the world to be eternal. In the end of the Book of Revelations, we who have put ALL their faith in God and Jesus, will dwell with HIM on earth in New Jerusalem for eternity.
