whynotaskdon: um.. i havent heard that before but if one want's to read the scriptures and gain knowledge that is no problem. First word was reveled to prophet Muhammed(pbuh) was "Iqra" meaning read.
so it very important to gain knowledge know want rights.

john j: thanks for you Q, we muslim are required to give dawah to non-muslim i.e make others aware about islam. eg if we didn't things like about accussations and misconceptions about islam wouldn't have known to non-muslims.

Islam is a great religion, anybody can see that by watching the world news each evening. The great Sunnis are car bombing the great Shiites. The very great Palistinians are bombing the Jews and each other. The Kurds have been slaughtered by Saddam.
We are told over and over how peaceful Islam is. A couple of mullahs are using the stupid people to kill off the opposition so that they will end up as the new dictator of Iraq.
Ever since the Great Mohammud ( pease on him ) had a herd of wives ( including a nine tear old ), the women of Islam have been little more than possessions of the men. They're told what to do, what to wear, where they're permitted to go, can never go anywhere without a relative keeping a eye on her.
What a great religion!!!

At present I am exchanging e-mails with a woman from Indonesia. I am a Christian and she is Islam. The thing that causes us to gain from each other is honesty and trust. We even share poetry and written material. I respect her enough to do research on the Islamic religion; the religion of love.
I think this woman is kind hearted and her goodness tells me all I need to know. Maybe we can set the tone for others, since I have noticed a lot of hateful questions and answers.

Sure you can...but be aware that you'll get some answers that are not well prepared and perhaps some abuse too. Plus, remember different people from different schools of thought may have different viewpoints. But ask away anyway.
