I met this amazing man online and I am completely smitten with him. We have talked on the phone for over a month now and we are meeting for the first time this weekend. I am a completely legal adult (25) and have been meeting people online since I was 15 years old. My dad knows about my online life and has never said anything other than "be careful". However, the problem is this... the guy I am totally smitten with lives all the way across the country. I am flying out to see him this weekend. My sister knows about him and the trip and is being cautiously supportive but my very overprotective father will have a coronary when I tell him. Any ideas how to gently break this to him? I leave in 36 hours. HELP!

If you don't live at home, then wait until you get back. You are 25 and still update your dad on every date?

If you know it will upset him or worry him, and you are in a position where he doesn't need to know where you are for a few days, keep your mouth shut.

It's like when I was a kid and my mom would tell me I had to go to the dentist, in a week. I'd worry for seven whole days and nights, freaking out and in a panic. See the similarity? Keep from worrying your dad by not mentioning anything. But since you are meeting a stranger who could be lying about his age, size, history, criminal background and even his marriage status, DO tell someone where you are going. Leave information and take a cell with you etc.

yeah ah! Make a joke to brake the ice about how long you have been dating off the web and then Just come out with it like what's the worst that can happen. or go and then tell him you forgot to tell him when you get back. if you and your dad is close I see there can be a problem

It's best you go there with someone you can trust to protect you in case anything untoward happens. Why can't he fly over to see you? Better think before you take this trip.

just be totally honest and express your maturity, apprehensions, excitement, etc. so your dad knows that you have thought this all through and are making an adult decision for yourself.

YOU BETTER MAKE SURE YOUR FATHER KNOWS ALL THE INFORMATION, THIS WAY WHEN YOU DO NOT COME BACK CAUSE SOME CRAZY PSYCHO KILLED YOU, HE CAN GIVE THE DETECTIVES ALL THE INFORMATION, MAKE SURE YOUR DAD HAS HIS EMAIL ADDRESS, HIS PHONE NUMBER, AND WHERE HE LIVES, WHILE YOU ARE AT IT MAKE SURE YOU GIVE HIM ONE OF THE FAKE PHOTOS YOU KNOW THIS GREAT GUY SENT YOU.
