i know they mark them up really high to try to rip people off, but i don't know exactly how high.

Depends on the model, depends on the demand for that model, depends on how close the dealer is to his target sales number for that month.

For example, it would be hard to find a dealer that would go down in price for a Scion xB, Toyota Prius, or Mini Cooper. But you can get pretty good markdowns for almost any American car because rebates are available and there are more cars out there than there are buyers.
