It depends! What race are you? Are you Black, Hispanic or Middle Eastern because if so, I have some great tips for you. Your avatar looks brown/dark so Im guessing you fall into one of those groups.
First you need to 'treat," and condition your hair to repair it!!! Here's what I suggest.
I use "Just For Me" kids relaxer (Im 21, but Mixed, so I can't use the strong adult African-American perms because they break my hair.) It works great for me. If you are Hispanic it should work for you too.
I also use "Motions CPR" Conditioning Treatment every week. After you wash your hair, use CPR, put a plastic cap on and sit under a hooded/bonnet hard-hat dryer for 10 mins, then wash it out. (This is Deep Conditioning) This is the BEST thing you can do for damaged hair...hint *CPR (Critical Repair and Treatment). It really does repair your hair and make it so much stronger and fast too.
I get my hair straighten once every season (spring, fall, winter, summer) so thats also the same time I get my hair trimed. You need to trim your ends too. This is very important to slowly get rid of those dead/split ends which causes moisture lost.
My hair is so think, healthy & long from taking care of it and using the products below. I'll give you the links. You can find all of this at Wal-mart, Sally's, or any Black/Hispanic hair store.
Motions (one of the products below, markets & sells a alot (over 50%) of their products in Latin America & The Carribean to places like Cuba, Puerto-Rico, Haiti, Dominican Republic, Panama, Nicaraqua, Guyana and other places that has large black/mixed populations and places in East Africa & the M.E. like Sudan, Dufur, Algeres, Ethopia, Eygpt, Eritrea with large African/Arab mixed populations.)
I hope this answers all of your questions and is helpful to you.

Use a shampoo for heat damaged hair, such as Dove, or Pantene Pro-V. And also try to leave the iron alone for a little bit, instead of straightening it everyday, try wearing it in a cute bun or something like that.

Cut it alot and see if the hair place you go to has a hot oil treatment. It puts moisture into your hair again. Leave in conditioner helps a lot! See if you can find shampoo and conditioner that restores hair like Dove Sheer Moisture!

Buy shampoos and conditioners that say for heat styling, like Thermasilk and before you straighten put in a pomade. I would also try not to straighten everyday. The less you heat style the better.

cut it a lot, then if you go to straighten it again put mousse or pomade in it first. don't straighten it when its wet, and don't straighten it without putting some kind of product in it.
