What is a good idea for lighting at an outdoor wedding at night in October? I know, sounds weird. Also, any good ideas on a Halloween themed reception?

White christmas lights would be nice, also candles anywhere you can safely put them. I wouldn't go with orange or other color lighting. There is a fine line between a theme and just tacky so be careful. You can have alot of fun with a halloween wedding.

You can hollow out pumpkins and make jack o lanterns for centerpieces or use them as vases for flower centerpieces, talk to your florist, they should be able to handle it. Also, small squashes and gourds arranged around a votive candle would make a nice centerpiece and would be super inexpensive.

Please, don't make your bridesmaids wear orange dresses, let them wear black instead with an orange sash or something. No one wants to look like a pumpkin. The groomsmen can wear orange ties. I recommend a black vest instead of cummerbund, they don't stay in place and don't look as good as a vest.

You could serve spiced apple cider and most people like pumpkin pie. Candy apples (if they aren't too expensive and too hard to find) would make a nice favor for people to take home.

Your wedding sounds like it's going to be great, good luck.

I think laterns would be good. Something that doesn't give off really bright lighting. That is if you're trying to create that Halloween atmosphere. You don't want orange lighting or something that adds that kind of color to the room. You want your guests to be able to see and not look bad. People have a lot more fun when they feel they look better.

Don't have people dress up for the reception like you would for a Halloween party, that would be tacky. It should be elegant, but yet dark. Try having guests come in all nice black attire or just dark colors.

You can have a lot of fun with the centerpieces. Use your favorite monsters, use candycorn for some of the treats. Create Halloween gift bags for guests.

candle lanterns/ hurricane lamps/ twinkle lights/ torchieres
the torch type items can be found at the hardware store and sometimes discount stores like BigLots and Ross.
Be careful w/ the Halloween theme. It is your wedding. You don't want to look at photos 20yrs from now and thnk "what was I thinking!"
Use one or two halloween-ish ideas and repeat them. Ie. dry ice smoke on the dance floor and in the punch bowl and as favors do candy corns. have your florist use fall-toned flowers in your bouquet= calla lillies come in a very nice rust tone that would be perfect. plus they have sort of a spookiness about them. you can line the aisle w/ jack-o-lantern pumpkins filled w/ candles. but don't make faces- use wedding themed shapes for cut-outs (ie, hearts, champagne flutes, bells).
good luck!
