We live in the mtns. and have bats living in the attic. Bats are a protected species in California -- YIKES!!!. How can we get rid of them easily. We are looking for a sound-wave devise that they may not like or something else. HELP....and suggestions would be appreciated.

Chances are: NO

Being a pilot I am frequently around airfields that try every trick in the book to try to get rid of birds of all types, including bats. Some of their techniques (which don't work):

They play sounds of birds in distress. This is especially common at the ends of jetways (the birds just sit in front of the speaker and chirp back at it).

They use pyrotechnics (the birds get used the sound of them).

They use bigger birds to try to scare away all of the other birds (The bigger bird will only successfully get rid of a few, it can't get rid of a flock of thousands and bats frequently flock anywhere from the thousands to the millions).

Sometimes airfield managers will go out and chase the birds away with an airport car. (This only scares the birds away for a few minutes, they usually return in a very short period of time).

The fact is, you probably won't beat the bats. Many people think that releasing sounds into the air that are inaudible by humans will work. In reality, the birds quickly get used to the sound and they return in a short period of time.

You could get a shotgun and an IR scope!!! Good luck.

My dad had a similar problem at his cottage in Quebec, Canada, only with walking rodents instead of flying ones. He used a sonic emmiter to get them out of the house as well as a few near each of the entrances to keep the mice from trying to come back in. Check at your local hardware store for these. Another (and usually much easier) option would be to call pest control. They should have the equipment to get the bats out of your attic in a very humane way.

I believe you can contact the humane society, they can direct you to someone who can relocate them. Bats, believe it or not are helpful for many things.

Get a TV tuned to C-Span. That should repel anything.

I'll probably be condemned for saying this but wouldn't it be better to co-exist with them?
No one can say for sure whether the Sonic devices you refer to, can damage the bats.
Do you really want that on your concience?
If you leave them alone they should, should leave you alone.
