do you call a soft drink a soda or a pop?

and also whys it called a soft drink?

I call it "pop." There are regional differences as to what it is called. Out here, we call the noon meal "dinner." Back east, some people call it "lunch." And there are differences in the pronunciation of other items such as pecan, apricot, potato, tomato, either, neither, wolf, and others. I think the regional differences are due to the different ethnicity's of the people who settled in the particular region.

i call it pop or soda depends who i am talking to like my kids i call it soda and i don't know why they call it soft drink.

I call it a soda. I drink Coke so sometimes I say a Coke.

Here in Northern California, I hear 'coke' for any type of soft drink more than anything else. If one wants to make certain they get a certain kind, one must specify.

Well I'm a southerner now, so we call it soda. But, when I was growing up in New England, we called it TONIC.

In NJ we call it Soda. I've been to Illinois. In Illinois, they call it pop.
