Absolutely!!!
Its more like a 6th sense.....like if someone dies that was really close to the owner and he/she is really dismayed.....the animal will most likely know that they are needed more!!
Also if it is the "owner" that dies......if the owner and the pet had a very strong connection i have heard cases where the pet just gives up and dies its self.....and if it doesn't then they can get very aggressive and completely change their personality around other people!!
Pets are truly amazing at knowing when they are needed for support the most...animals are not stupid. You can tell a lot about a person that doesn't like animals....whats not to like???

Dr Rupert Sheldrake is an oddball scientist who tries to answer questions such as "How can you tell if someone is staring at you from behind?"
He did an experiment and discovered that when dogs and owners are emotionally bonded, the dog can tell when the owner is coming home. He videoed the dogs and the owners, and the owners kept a diary.
Here's the freaky thing; some dogs reacted when the owners made the definate decision to go home. So its not just that they recognised the car engine...
Search for him on the web and see for yourself.

Hi,
Pets definitely pick up on their owner's senses and how they feel and the mood they are in. I am studying to become a Pet Bereavement Supporter and work in a Vets and I see this all the time in the animals which come into our Hospital.

I've heard stories about animals who owners have died, and eventhough they weren't near them when their owner died they started howling the very moment of their death. And sometimes even when you aren't their owner they can sense something wrong. I was dog sitting for some friends of mine while they where out of town. I was really sad because my mother and I had a really big fight. And every time i started crying they would jump up on me and lick me, and they would whine and look up at me with their beautiful eyes. and try to get me to pet them. I don't know how I would have made it through that week without them. So yeah animals know what's going on.

Definitely. I had my dog since he was 6 weeks old, he was a nightmare as a puppy and very naughty. I went through a difficult period in my life when he was a year old, he was there for me. He knew when I was sad, he calmed me down, wasn't so naughty, just sat with me, looking at me all the time. Whenever I was feeling down, he knew and he would always cheer me up. No one can tell me that he couldn't sense how I felt, it was clear to everybody that he knew when things were happening to me. It wasn't my friends that cheered me up when things were happening to me, it was my lovely dog.

definitely. cats and dogs are the best at this. They sense if your upset and need a cuddle. I've got 4 cats, my youngest one, Susie, is only one and she's my little baby. She always knows when I'm upset and she comes and lies next to me and stretches her paw around my neck as if to give me a cuddle, it makes me feel better every time!!

Some people think animals have a sixth sense. Mine, however, doesn't. Of course, my dog is obliviouss to everything.

Cindy, what breed of dog do you have? Your dog must be some dog to be oblivious of everything! But they do have a more developed sense of smell and sight than we do.
